Maybe next year will be the final test of his mettle at this level. |

So, to return to the original title of the thread, looks like Gasly at Renault is unlikely. His best bet to graduate is Toro Rosso losing patience with Kvyat.

And then Kvyat where would go? Formula E / IndyCars ? Quite early F1 department for him, it means. Perhaps Manor or Sauber could save him from oblivion?

Looking more like Sauber will keep Nasr and Ericsson. Does Kvyat have any backing if Red Bull drops him? I guess he'd need to bring money to stand a chance at Manor.

So, Gasly isn't in at Toro Rosso and Renault looks unlikely. What next? Can't do GP2 again if he wins the title. Super Formula? Third wheel at Red Bull and hope for Kvyat to be dropped mid-season?

Not much left to prove, though. Might seem a bit like stagnation. Do Red Bull ship many cans in Japan?

That's a pretty big thumbs down for Gasly.
But let's be clear. He isn't yet at the level of previous RB juniors promoted to STR from the lower categories. Can he prove Marko wrong? |

I think it's a shame to not see him given a go over Kvyat. I thought Danil was terrible today. There were multiple times he literally made zero effort to defend from being overtaken. It looked like he had nothing to fight for..
I used to be a fan, but to me, it's pretty clear he isn't mentally cut out for F1 at this stage, and giving someone else a go who's on a very good run would have made a lot more sense to me. Selby |

What about if Sainz goes to Renault and Gasly get the Toro Rosso drive?

Frankly
* I can't see Red Bull giving away Sainz to Renault * I doubt Red Bull wants a pairing Kvyat-Gasly for Torro Rosso. |

Again it goes to the age old problem, so many good drivers, not enough seats at the top

However it would help of we had another couple of teams on the grid even if they were junior Renault or Honda squads. |

Something tells me Honda could do with a second team, but there seems no prospect of it at the moment.

It didn't harm Stoffel Vandoorne did it? A couple of wins, and the best Honda-driver in the championship. Not bad |

As long as everything goes by plan yes .... but if things do not go well for him in Japan it will be likely to be a dead end for Gasly
