10 Tenths Monza Preview and Timetable
Italian GP 4th September 2005 - Monza
As we head into one of the most evocative races of the weekend, can McLaren claim that illusive and important 1-2? As for Ferrari, they have been testing right up until the race weekend to extract some more performance from the cars and importantly the tyres, however unless something dramatic happens they look likely to face one of their most disappointing home races for several years. We also get to see the first fruits of what Midland are likely to be capable of as a constructor, when the EJ15B makes it debut this weekend. Toyota have new front wing elements to cope with the high speed nature of the circuit and to try and regain some of the initiative they seem to have lost in the mid-season patch. Williams hope to have cured the tyre rubbing issue that led to 5 tyre failures in Turkey, but both cars will start down the order for qualifying, which is bound to happer them. It looks like another McLaren/Renault tussle, although Alonso has the relative luxury of knowing that in the remaining races Kimi has to go all out, while he has to do 'just enough' and the title will be coming his way. The one engine rule will be crusial on Monza, but even more on Spa. Most drivers will have to use a new engine in Monza. These drivers can get some major reliability difficulties on Spa. Therefore, it is possible that these drivers will slow down a bit during the race.
