New track - experiments with detail

This one I made a while ago. Its probably my most detailed track yet. (though, it will be surpassed by a track coming in a couple of days time )

And a smaller image with some more info on it

The track itself is nothing special I suppose, its OK though, I liked it a lot at the time anyway!

Sorry to say it William, but you really must get out more.

P, that is awesome stuff!! Congrats on a job well done
Though, surprised not to see any kerbing in all that

Yeah, I haven't figured out an easy way to do that yet.
Glad you all like it though. But as I said in the top post, that isn't a patch on what I'm about to finish
What do you make of it as a track? I really like my turn 4 to 9 combo. It would be climbing steadily from 4 to 6, then steeply climbing through 7, over the brow of the hill in the middle of 8 and then plunging down into 9.

I've thought about kerbs a couple of times, too, but haven't figured out any easy way either. I guess simply drawing in all the seperate kerbs is the only way.

About the track... well... I really don't like it, it doesn't stand out to me that much. I think it would be like Hungaroring to drive (long, winding corners, with a couple of tight ones and nothing really much in straights other then pit straight), but the track reminds me a lot of the Gran Turismo series tracks for some reason...

I use paint shop pro, but without exactly knowing which program you use, its hard to know if this will be any help or not

an example:
- i draw the track as a vector line with a line width of 8 pixels
- to get the white lines on the outside of the track i duplicate the previous step and make the line 9 or 10 pixels wide, and then move it behind the first - so just the edges are visible
- then for the kerbing i do the same again, making a duplicate of the first step and making the line width 10-11 pixels ( i usually make this one pixel wider than the white otherwise the kerbing appears to disappear), I then change the stroke on the line to a red dashed line (allowing the white behind it to show)....this will give you kerbing all around the track on both sides
- to keep only the bits of kerb you need, I convert the vector layer (the one with the dashed red ine on it) to a raster layer (again this may only work in paint shop pro), and using the eraser i just delete the parts i don't need.

thats probably about as clear as mud....

I've found a way of doing it too. Not like that, but similar I guess. I don't use PSP, I use GIMP. Its free so...
Its almost ready, just needs a few last, maybe a bit unnecessary tweaks...

OK...

Here it is, the big one

Not spent quite as much time on it as you'd think, but I suppose its been about 4 hours over 5 days...

And the easy-see version just so you can comment on the track layout (which I personally really like )

very nice indeed

i started to do a similar thing with the farell challenge that was on here a month or so ago...also played around with putting the track into a 3d modelling program to try a flyover of the track....was only semi-successful

stupid 10 minute edit rule....

pirenzo - what scale did you do that at ie. is it something like 1 pixel = 1 metre?

and heres the (dodgy in places) flyover of my Farell challenge track. click here 1.6MB

*starts working on new track now*

P, that is bloody AWESOME!!!... I have no other words for it, I'm seriously shocked about the effort that you put into it and how awesome that it really looks... Good job

HRT, that flyover is alright. I like the idea, and its a good way to represent how the track looks like... Good job, hopefully you could spruse it up a bit and it will be a lot smoother later, but very good idea non the less...

Good job P, looks great!
Though, even at ImageShack's greatest dimensions the image is still con... densed? Cr@p, forgot the word. :S
Anyway, could you e-mail me the track so I can see it in all its glory? thanks

EDIT: ah, that's the word: compressed.
EDIT 2: Oops, disregard-I found that when you right-click and Copy on ImageShack it gives you the full image.

One thing, really-your shadows all seem to be going in different directions.

Yeah, I didn't pay too much attention to that. All the pit buildings and trees shadows go the same way, but the bridge and the main grandstand go in different directions. I don't really care
