Chatters should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridChatters should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid
How do I know when my clutch is about to expire?

A question from one of the not-so-mechanically-minded on Ten-Tenths...

On the average car you will have problems getting reverse & 1st gear.
i`m only part mechanically minded, but they have been tell tale signs in the past

As the clutch wears, the bite point will gradually become higher on the pedal. If your car's got a revcounter, try accelerating hard - if the revs rise faster than the speedo & drp back when you take your foot off the accelerator, the clutch is slipping.

Another test you can do is put into second gear &, with the handbrake firmly on, rev it to around 2,000 & slowly release the clutch - if the engine doesn't slow down, the clutch is slipping.

Wouldn't recommend that one as if your clutch is on the way out it could finish it off very quickly.

Agreed on that. Some of the customers cars I have to pull away on tick over, otherwise I'd get the blame

As has been said the "bite" position will normally keep going further up until it stops driving altogether !
Some of the cable operated clutch automatic adjusters leave a lot to be desired !
Perhaps Dave has got a mobile clutch clinic !!!!
