The TCR Asia finale went without coverage. Wonderful.

TCR Japan will split from Super Taikyu and become a stand-alone series next year. It's great that the country has a dedicated touring car series again after so long and hopefully it will encourage Japanese manufacturers to develop TCR cars.

TCR promoter Marcello Lotti has made a rallying call to the other Japanese manufacturers to join the fold next year, and take the fight to Honda at the launch of the TCR Japan Touring Car Series at Suzuka.

...

It’s understood that a number of Japanese manufacturers have been investigating developing a TCR car, with Nissan the most likely to make the move. Mazda have also been understood to have been looking at developing a TCR version of their Mazda 3, while Toyota are well-placed to start a TCR programme, with the new global Corolla being launched next year.

Toyota Carolla and Mazda3 make sense.
Which Nissan model? Nissan Pulsar is no longer on sale in Europe.

For Nissan I agree it makes little to no sense; the crossover/ SUV is the path that Nissan is very successfully on. The Pulsar was doomed to failure, and self fulfilled quite spectacularly. I don't believe they have any future plans to produce a straight C segment car for Europe again. Micra I presume is too small, though I have not read the regulations thoroughly!

A quick look at Nissan's Japanese site confirms the only conventionally powered 'car' they make (that looks close enough to TCR size) is the Sylphy (looks like a booted Pulsar):

https://www3.nissan.co.jp/vehicles/new/sylphy.html

However, at the risk of looking stupid (for not knowing the TCR regs in detail), could Nissan not enter the Leaf with a petrol engine? If so, that would make a goos starting point for an ETCR version which I could see happening.

Where is the FIAT TCR car these days?

If it meant getting some groundwork done on the electric version, perhaps...

It was only a suggestion.

Megane TCR by Vukovic Motorsport

I hope we will see the Megane TCR in the Euro series at least. It seems a really interesting car altough it struggled this year with affidabilty.

Curious the choice of the wheel rim!

The image was extrapolated by the video of Automoto.it wich was inside the car for a run in Paul Ricard

I have a sweet spot for Renault so I am not neutral but I really like this TCR car.

Rims look like for setting up camber, etcetera.

Beneath the disks the wheels seem to be the same as the ones on the other car. "Turbo fans" as the disks are also called are a thing in the tuning world, could they be a gimmick to complement the retro livery? Or perhaps an actual test to improve aero or something?

Yes they are It seems that they help the cooling of the brakes. Although I'm not sure...

Are they similar to those rims used in the super touring era?

I thought those discs on super tourers was for keeping up (or in some cases building up) tyre temperatures, that's why they were mostly on the rear wheels on FWD cars? I think it might be for setting up the car, as FIRE said.

Could we be missing a trick with the Nissan TCR car? Infinity are a Nissan division/sub-brand and they do have the Q30 which is the right size... Given they use the Infinity brand for racing elsewhere (F1) too, it is plausible.

The Nissan Leaf would make a great base for an eTCR however!!!

It would make more sense to sell a more-developed factory-backed Renault Megane (petrol) TCR, as TCR aligns more closely with Renault Sport than Nissan Nismo IMO.

However, TCR is a class in American "Continental World Challenge" racing, so it is not implausible that a Nissan Sentra Nismo TCR could be developed specifically for World Challenge racing. [And perhaps appear with Pulsar or Slyphy badges in Asian TCR series.]

Why FIAT? There is already Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Regarding Focus, there is now a new model Focus. If the business case stacks up, it seems quite plausible M-Sport could build a Focus TCR with the latest model Focus (and with the resources of M-sport behind it, it would no doubt be a competitive TCR).

If BMW build a TCR car it will probably be the next 1 series which uses the same platform as the Mini Countryman and thus be FWD.

Its a shame that the privateer TCR developments cant really compete the Renault looks a great car but has had its issues. The Subaru makes sporadic uncompetitive appearances. anybody seen a Kia anywhere apart from one being run in Portugal. the Focus programme seems to have vanished and nothing seem to have been heard about the Tipo programme. The Alfa Romeo seems to be the only one that has shown potential.

The Fiat Tipo TCR has been presented by Tecnodom months ago. Tecnodom said it would have raced at Vallelunga in September but it didn't happen. But I think that next year they will go racing.

Subaru showed good performances with good drivers at the wheel, despite being quite unreliable. Comini could have won a race last year at Monza, Rangoni came 2nd this year at Imola.
