Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad said this a few days ago on Alonso to IndyCar...
Luis Garcia Abad: "It is not an option or a possibility. Of course you always have the option of staying or leaving, or choosing one of the two, but nothing is decided. "This is speculation that comes from the environment around formula one and its more than 500 million spectators and the large number of media. "We are calm and when the time comes to make the decision, he will take it as always. What we all want is for Fernando to be as happy as possible, but he knows that when he can win he does win, and when he cannot, he cannot. "Every time he's on a podium, he's happy, and with Le Mans he has fulfilled a dream." |

First time this season Fred hasn't got into Q2. That says something, shows some improvement over last season

Toyota aren't involved in IndyCar and Honda aren't involved in the WEC, so there isn't a clash of interest. Don't forget, Alonso tested at Bahrain last November with Toyota, while McLaren still had the Honda PU in the back of it.

its nice to see, how alonso have got the tiniest of chances, of only having 5 years each at the history's two oldest and most successful teams.
yet he took this tiny chance and ran with it, improving both, the technical development and the team moral to never seen heights, making friends and scoring titles along the way. true champion. |

Fred is still the most complete driver on the grid, shame he hasn't got the car to challenge for wins the last few seasons

Indycar would welcome alonso with open arms as they know the world wide interest it would create, i see him doing both Indy and WEC next year as in both he has a chance of doing wwell whilst in F1 he has little chance of getting anywhere near the podium.

Such a shame....
They could spice up F1 tomorrow.. Alonso in Bottas seat next year to keep Hamilton "on the ball". I'd even pay for a vpn to get Sky again.. |

Mmm... Deportago back at Merc? I think Jochen Mass would be adamant rejecting this.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fred in an Indycar next season, it's the only box yet to tick in the Indy 500

Honda has said they have no issues whatsoever with Alonso driving in IndyCar powered by a Honda engine.

Fernando Alonso: "I don't know if I will continue in Formula one.
"It's a decision I'll have to make, but nothing is decided or planned. I do not want to end up with a bad taste in my mouth, in the sense of entering a time when I cannot give 100 per cent." "When the summer is over and I contemplate all the possible options, I will make the best decision for the good of my team and the fans." |

Alonso managed to finish in the points while starting from the pits, overtaking the puny Honda in the process. Much better from McLaren on a weekend they were once again woeful in qualifying.

Like their whole year. They look rubbish, but are at least coming away with something. They have 44 points, 14 more than the whole of last year.
However strong runs from Haas and Force India haven’t helped today. Last edited by Adam43; 1 Jul 2018 at 21:00. |

Why did McLaren continue with Mercedes up to and including 2014, if they fell out with them in 2008/9?

From City AM
Sports car maker McLaren has warned investors that profits could take a hit this year due to a government investigation the company is involved in. At the bottom of its annual report, the manufacturer confirmed that an unknown government department had approached it for information regarding a probe concerning "third party companies and executive and other persons who have been, or are currently, associated with the group". Though the company is not the subject of the investigation, it told shareholders the investigation could have a second-hand impact on company finances. Apparently they also reported a £66M loss in their last figures. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk |

I think they went from being the official works Mercedes team to a customer team when Mercedes set up as a works outfit, perhaps staying with them as a customer because Daimler Chrysler were still a major shareholder of McLaren even after they had purchased Brawn.
