It is not just seeing them that is important, hearing them is also the best way to bring back memories of an age gone by, the distinctive sounds reminded me when I could close my eyes and yet still tell which car was going past, now you will never be able to say that about todays diesels.

True enough for the diesels and even the Judds sound similar! The GpC were so distinctive. Jags, Merc, Spice Cossies, all beautifully different. But I'm just an incurable sportscar romantic!

IMO the lack of pace was more down to unfamiliarity with the track than a lack of driving talent.

When you see these cars on UK circuits they're pushed, with fewer stragglers.

+1 the above comments regarding the sound, that's what takes me to the races. When I camcorder the events, it's the sound that always strikes me when you watch it back, after the muted TV broadcasts.

CUT 7 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
just to point out that 25 yrs slow/fast was still as fast as last years LMP's' over a single lap.Its a shame they were & looked so slow at LM.At Silverstone last year & in a few days they look pretty quick to me, though i missed them back in the day.Must have been incredable.
D Types & E types are quicker now.Maybe Group c will be ...
J Law goes up 'the hill' at the F O S only 2.5 secs slower then Nick Heidfields 1999 F 1 car .How slow can that be?

I hear what your saying ..... but my first Le Mans was 1989 , and I remember seeing them flying ..... and I mean flying . It just wasnt the same for me to see them again in this light . I would prefer to remember my memories .

Not so .

256 mph was the top Group C speed , and the cars are not faster today . And they also had ground effect , so that would help them corner faster .

They weren't all running routinely at 256 in the Group C heyday, that's for sure.......

benjabulle should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
GrC/GTP serie was having its first round at Spa this week end, J.Law won both races on its Jaguar XJR8, having lost the screen on its XJR12 type during practice. Not many cars for this event but interesting ones, loved this Nissan R88C, some photos :

Hum, good question, some would say because of the economic crisis but if you look at the other series it's not true. The serie had some "internal" difficulties during the winter, main reason maybe, and last year there was a race at Le Mans which had a good influence on the number of cars.
