JABWOA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Open question - What other global event (yearly) has as many events/rounds?
Tennis may come close but you do get to pick and chose your tournaments (and still only 10-15 majorish events a year?)
Definitely F1 would have to be the largest personnel driven global sport.

I think Football, as in Soccer is. It is truly global sport, clubs, international teams.

I don't think you can compare soccer with F1 directly. You could perhaps compare Motorsport with soccer and then F1 with either the Eurocup or the
World Cup

But this is irrelant really, F1, like all major competitions needs participants and spectators and for the former reward must be related to effort, for the latter there must be uncertainty, interest and excitement.

Making anything commonplace reduces value and it would be interesting to really understand just why NASCAR draws crowds when it runs so many events in a restricted geographic area.

Re-jigging the finances is the biggest problem IMO. The Pitpass piece defines some payments of which most of us have no real knowledge I suspect.

The new DTM champion has highlighted a good point when he says of F1, effectively, who needs it as a driver?

I would say ticket prices followed by about a dozen other things that make it more accessible and family friendly.

I feel it would be closest. Excuse my ignorance, is there a Euro wide championship that runs weekly or just a limited series at the end of the domestic series?

I'm just thinking from a travel & production point of view.

I wasn't comparing Football/Soccer with F1, it just is global on a scale that F1 and other sports can only dream of. You just have to look at the myriad of home grown and international competitions. Personally, I can't stand the game.

There are two big European events. The UEFA Champions League, which is an annual tournament played by the top clubs in Europe and there's the UEFA European Championship, more commonly known as Euro 2016 like in this year's competition. This is played every 4 years by Europe's international teams. I seem to know a little more than I should, being an American in the UK but it's very hard to distance oneself from the game.

For completeness: The Champions League is played throughout the entire European football season with the final towards the end, by not only the 'top' clubs but also those immediately beneath them who play through a set of qualification matches early in the season.

It's *almost* become the European 'Super League' that UEFA have been attempting to get in place for decades, it's a massive money spinner for all concerned and has a global reach which is surprisingly wide.

The European Championship is a little bit like the Olympics, taking place over a few weeks in the summer once every four years.

And, whether we like it or not, the equipment needed to play football is: a ball. It's a bit simpler to play at an early age than (for example) Bambino karting

There are articles appearing in the financial pages of the newspapers in the UK that Delta Topco (FOM) may be facing investigation by the EU over their tax arrangements. Although it is run from London, it is based for tax purposes in Jersey in the Channel Islands, and this probe will be to look at the way that DT avoids paying tax by being charged huge amounts (millions of pounds) in capital and interest on supposed loans from the Jersey entity.

This is the same model used by so many companies, such as Amazon and Apple, and the EU is feeling quite bullish after it's recent success over Apple for the same practice of transfer pricing, resulting in a fine of €13 billion.

It appears that the source of these stories is Bernie's favourite journalist, now that makes things very interesting.

Off topic, but whatever we may think of BE, the people who know him seem to have a true affection for the man.

I'm assuming he has know Nico since Nico was a baby and that came across in the hug he got.

Maybe I should have posted this in the memorable moments thread but this was a very touching moment.
