This may well have been covered elsewhere, but did I hear or read somewhere that Rheims was to either fully or partially re-open?

I think it is about time we had a dedicated thread to this. It is has been mentioned a few times over 10-10ths, so ChrisA shall split your post from the general Abandoned race circuits thread.
For background here are some old Reims threads scattered around 10-10ths: Motorsport and Photography forum: Aysedasi has a "thing" for Reims... Sportscar forum: Yearning for Reims to be used again... Motorsport History forum:http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...vival Movement Motorsport history forum: My Reims video footage query Motorsport history forum: Well someone had to do a mystery photo competition There are, of course, loads of other mentions and threads about Reims. Do a search if you would like to have a look. |

http://www.flickr.com/photos/renault...7600222111910/ The buildings are having their paintwork restored, the above is what I shot in Easter this year and there's meant to be a demo event this Sept 22/3. |

DEmo is 10th Sept - in English (!) here - http://www.weea-organisation.com/pdf...ticipation.pdf
Sounds like a trackday on the circuit!?? Could be interesting if it's full tilt allowed... (I thought the Theos (?) hairpin was now an island-infested interchange??) |

Reims is Revived
Mike and Richard Knight of Winfield Racing School fame are the UK agents for this event. The e-mail address is mk@mkman.demon.co.uk. See page 91 of Autosport May 17th for more info.

Fellow mods, I'm happy to leave this in despite it being a link to another forum. It is on topic and very interesting but since it is in French, unlikely to be a competitor, although the poster might care to note our rules on such matters! Besides we link to TNF occasionally, and they do likewise!

From simple significance terms alone, must be worth it John. I wonder if we have any members who were actually there and took their own pics? I wish I had been!!!

bit off topic but i really want to know this.
Reims host an endurance race. Does anyone know if it was 12/24 hours? And what time of day it began? I thought i heard on radio Le Mans that it was at midnight but i haven't been able to verify. |

Reims was a 12-hour race - the early ones at least started at midnight; the last one was in 1967
EDIT - Sorry, managed to miss MM's post above... |

Cunninghams at Reims
Briggs Cunningham raced his cars at the 12 hour events in 1953 and 1954, while the team were still in Europe after Le Mans. Briggs himself finished 3rd in 53 with Sherwood Johnston, while the Fitch (spectacularly crashed while leading) and Walters Cunninghams retired. In 54 Cunningham/Johnston finished 5th, with Fitch/Walters 6th.
Regarding the 12 midnight starting time, BSC was quoted as saying "What a ridiculous time to start a motor race" - or words to that effect. |
