Mike I guess your strawberries are red. I use this in my axle in W250 form, as you say it looks like a milkshake or smoothie. The mineral I get it from a groundhog… In your ZF do you use monogramed or multigrade?
David, is your gearbox issue related to the oil you use if I may ask? |

Many years ago , when I was running a turbo car on International rallies , I found an oil which I though was a big step forward in Lubricants for gearboxes . Good for the Sychro,s on a Gp N box , and could take the loading of a large power increase . Silkolene SRG75 . Now rebranded [ I believe ] as Fuchs Titan SRG75 . Talking to a race preparer I know recently , he also said that he only runs SRG75 in his classic race cars gearboxes . Perhaps a bit expensive for ordinary road use , but I think well worth it for what it does . |

Don't think so, I've run my A series ribcase boxes on Mobil 1 for years and never had problems. It simply and suddenly refused to go into 4th, haven't explored why yet. I suspect the main reason was that for the first time in 15 years I didn't carry the spare box with me! Tempting fate and all that....

Wot's that all about? Did you see the closest-ever finish on today's Tour de France stage? Bet that had Baub jumping up & down. ...and to link it to classics, at one point three 2CV's were doing what they were designed for & racing across a field parallel with the Pelethon. |

Same with the Jaguar boxes plus I was told by the bloke that does all our boxes that the overdrives need 20-50 as it gives them more pressure.

Thank you delta but dog engagement boxes are not allowed in our category. I dont use the short shifter either to preserve the internals. I wish I could find steel synchs but seems impossible to find the reference. When hot the move from 3 to 4 is unpredictable even with new parts. Box is said 3 rails, 4 speed but not the Bullet one.
Mike I'll try again mineral. I know some improve the lubrification but in France there are few good specialists. Same for axles. |

Should be a link for steel baulk rings . I don,t like them myself & would always use the brass ones . Ones of the main factors in getting the selector to work right & not break baulks is to get the hubs correctly spaced on the mainshaft without too much endfloat .Although it is not always easy to get the different thickness shims . I have been told by others that both Quaife & Tran X now recommend SRG 75 oil as the one to use in their boxes . But it might be worth checking with them what they think is the best oil . |

The link is for 1/2 hub baulk . Go to bottom of page for 3/4 hub baulks . |

Thank you for taking care Tel911S. Those baulk rings might fit I'll try. I can't remember if there is a possibility to adjust space via shims. If I'm right, Quaife and Trans are now the same company and can't be wrong. Change oil of the Type5 gearbox is tricky because the drain plug is not located at the lowest point of the case. In addition, I dont recommend to "loose" anything inside - small spring for instance- because there is a very strong built in magnet located at the lowest point!! Before saying experience sometimes you may say s..t!

Robert this kind of luxe de précaution helped very recently and prevented from ex-aequo. But if your point means that both deserved to win its fine for me. How do they all manage to be that fast with the outside temps we have now? The cornering abilities of a bicycle are not fantastic, in the descents you can read speeds like 90 kph rather often. So chapeau bas lot of respect to them.

These have became very difficult to get now , so in the past I have had washers machined to fit onto the shaft because it is important to reduce the endfloat of the gearhubs to make the gearchanges work OK . PS . I hope we don,t get into trouble with Bauble for talking about cars on his birthday thread ? |

It is not easy to describe without having the gearbox to work with . But with the gearbox assembled & the top cover off , looking at the mainshaft from above , each baulk ring should only move a very small amount before it grips the taper of the gear next to it . If there is a lot of clearance before it grips , then the gearchange into that gear will be difficult , & eventually the baulk ring will break . |

You're perfectly clear, thanks again. I can only blame myself because its the kind of alteration we use to make on the Honda bikes gearboxes in period, using what we call "clinquant" meaning sometimes cans of soda or other beverage…
From what I read here, many send their gearbox to a renown specialist. I'll try to find one or will cross the Channel again. |
