driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
in 1977 Guy Edwards raced Lola T296 car with Ultramar Livery in 2 events
as you see below
does anyone have photos of the car and any idea what chassis he drove where it came form which team prepped the car?
1975 he raced the Lola t390 CI caravans car in 76 he drove the March 75S with Lepp in Ultramar livery
77 he was racing the March F1/F5000 car in Ultramar livery so these races where slotting into his Shellsport/Aurora programme

From memory it was reportedly a new car, ie a 1977 build.

Do you have any AS reports to confirm this?

Any photos

I did find 1 grainy foto last night of ultramar liveried lola form poruguese site race at estoril

now to flick thru the AS collection for more info

Dan on race cars direct man has AS collection and MS £1k the lot
never sure if its the ££ or the space thats needed to store them that is putting people off owning a collection
when u buy them each week u never pay attention to the space they take up ( well only my mother moaning to my dad not to let me keep them 25 years ago! ) but always a useful research library even for peoples tel #!

Quite agree Drifty, space is the problem for me. I have M/Sports 1997-present, and am already starting to think about getting rid !!

and Mike Hall(T294). I finished 3rd at the 1974 Run-Offs in this car behind the two drivers above. We sold the car to Dave Johnson of Kitchener,Ont, Canada that Fall who raced it in the Can-Am a few times. He sold the car to Roman Pechman of Toronto who raced the same series for several years.

Roman owned the car until I bought the car back 5 years ago. Fully restored, I have raced the car several times in the US and hope to bring it to Europe in the near future. It was the car that really set me on the way and so holds a dear place in my heart. A beautiful car!

Ah come on now Bobby. You made your name in Atlantics. You probably do not remember me but I was with Bruce Jensen and latterly his crew chief when he ran a Ralt RT1. Leighton

sorry everyone for the interrupted message above! the rest of it was in response to ?s about HU-34. The car was originally sold by Carl Haas to Bill Marsh of Muncie, Indiana. Bill is the heir to the Marc]sh Supermarket chain in Indiana. My father Michael bought HU-34 from Bill in late Spring 1973. The car was originally fitted with a 1300 cc Brian Hart BDA. We raced it in that config until late 1973 when we replaced the 1300 with a 1850 cc BDA. My father and I won several SCCA Regional races in the car. In 1974, now fitted with a 2 liter BDG, I won the SCCA CenDiv Bs/r National Championship and finished 3rd at the SCCA Run-Offs behind Jerry Hansen(T292) and Mike Hall(T294.) The rest of the story precedes as above thread.

Bobby great to see you back here. Please stay around! I've stitched this together, in the way you had intended (I hope!), but please say if I've got it wrong!

How's your research going? I have acquired about half of the editions of Echappement for 1972 but now have a complete collection of Autosprint for that year. Autosprint doesn't tend to comment on cars being new or who owns them but the photos can be useful.

Hi Bobby
I have been doing some research on the USA Can am lola t290-296 cars
Mike hall
he had a lola t290 car running in some SCCa events then later he came out in 2 litre can am with t294 car
is this the same car with updates
He was listed as an Ozzie driver from the Chicagao area
U where driving the Trueman red roof lola t294 or 6 when 2 litre can am series came along
do u remember much about the other drivers and their cars?

I don't specifically remember Mike Hall driving a T290(before my time) but I believe his 294 was not an up-dated 290. Perhaps the car Tim evans would have been Mike's if in fact he drove a 290.

Mike was the son of E.L. Hall, a important person in the history of the SCCA, Chicago Region and a long-time Board member of Elkart Lake. I believe Mike now operates an Audi dealership in the Chicago area.

The 296 you efer to was actually my fathers. I drove it in selected races in the Can-Am series in 1977 and then Jim Trueman drove the car in 1978. We sold the car to John Timken, Old Lyme, CT, at the end of 1978. John drove it a while, stored it for nearly 20 years and then sold it to a Fred Kaiman(I believe/sp?) in 1999 or so. I had the chance to buy it first but was looking for my 290 instead which I have in my posession.

The car had a Swindon BDG originally but I do not know what it has today. I believe the car is raced in vintage races in the East.

In addition to your questions, at Elkart Lake in 1977, I drove a T292 that was owned by a restauranteur from St. Louis named Noah Lacona. I believe this car is now/or was owned by Joe Buzzetta

Bobby Brown drove a March 75S and I believe he won the U2 category. I have many programa from that time and will look and see who else competed.

I will aslo try to get the chassis # for my T296

Bobby thanks for info u answered 4 more questions i was yet to ask you
I have the data on my laptop with all these name like Timken Lacona etc
tomorrow night my beloved is on night shift so i can sit with Laptop beer TV ebay 10 10 site all at once and no rows

I iwll ask u a heap of questions as yu where around at the time and already i can see that your memory is in good shape considerin how many races cars years countries you have raced it
an old school friend of mine was at Stewart GP then Jaguar when u where there
he said that the place was good when u where there then The Rat came in and fkd it all up
When u left many others wanted to go as well
When the Rat left they where happy but it was not the same place

Tim evans car is Hu27 now owned by the Judge in LA
There was another T290 car that i cannot trace maybe the Hall T290
your old Trueman red roof T296 car i think is with Joe ? Mazzato i think HU87? i will confirm this from my files on my office PC

yes Bobby Brown raced the march 75s ( more info on another tread )
he told me he had a good race with you year before last at Mnt Tremblant in the FA cars u beat him by the thikness of a cats whisker -hes not bad for a "pensioner" !!

i have half a dozen fotos ive found on the Interweb i can mail to u that may jog your memory of other 290-296 cars that u may have run against
PM me yr email address and i can send some over for u to look at

Drifty, was Bobby's a true T296, if so perhaps the ex-Mallock/Edwards 1977 Ultramar car ?? How many other 2-litre G6s did Lola make in 77?
