ERC Portugal

Any sign of an entry list or any news?

Question has to be asked why Portugal has an ERC round when there aren't any regular competitors in any division and the fact it is so far away?

Could be swapped with Tatarstan in the future…

Where will be you exactly? The track is only 10 Km (6.21 miles) from the border and over 35 Km from motorway A-52.

Madrid? Defo more than a stone throw away from Montalegre.

Jeez, have you seen the entry list! Almost half of what Lydden was!

I sometiems struggle to think if ERA are sane, why on earth do they continue to go to this rubbish track when you have Lousada!

They must have paid someone off or something surely!!

Nope Rob, it’s not the ERA but the FIA who sticks with Portugal. And after Lousada has lost some of its former rulers it does not seem to be the place to go instead any more…

@ those people that all years say Portugal is so far:

Lousada likely never returns to ERC, and, yes, is better track than Montalegre in all aspects, but better Montalegre than nothing.

And, yes again, it's so far for you. And for us, Holland, UK, Belgium, etc, etc, are equally far. You are close of all these tracks, is not enought for you?

BTW: In the 2009 RX Yearbook says was 13000 spectators in Portugal, and in 2010 Yearbook only 6500. Something is wrong, I think was more people in 2010 than 2009, actually there was more seats. Do you know something, Eddy?

I have never been to Montalegre myself and the figures of spectators is, after 35+ years in RX, still a mystery to me. I tend to explain that there are always three figures: the one for the press, the one for the taxman and the true one (in the middle). But the second and third figure we are always refused to know...

But one point you miss defo: A country without any ERC regulars should not have an ERC round. If 100kms or 5000kms away from my door step, does not matter.

By that criteria there won't be many races left. Austria, Holland, Hungary, Portugal and Poland have no regular ERC drivers. Finland has one this year. Germany, France and the UK have three at best. So the championship will consist of Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic and Belgium...

Austria has Petrakovits and Holland has Many Kasse! So they just about make it.

Maybe it will go to Russia instead of Poland one day...

Hungary is already out.

Okay, maybe 'regulars' was the wrong word to use…

But drivers from Portugal are an unknown species in the ERC – before and after Montalegre.

Exactly, the same as Sils in Spain, no one really ever got into from there either!

I dont understand the deal with Nyirad, that's perhaps the best track in the championship! Why would you not have a round there!

Space on the schedule I guess

Only the 10 best candidates every year get a European round for the next. And the organisation of the event counts much more than the track itself. I only know the former Nyirád track and cannot judge the new one. But it was the organisation that lost the Hungarian ERC round.
