GT Open can run more favorable BoPs for the GT3s than WEC can for GTEs, since they don't have to worry about a class in front of them with amateurs in it. BoPs for GT3 classes vary so much. You can take the laptimes from IMSA, whether both GTE and GT3 run together and get a completely different result.

The GT3 IMSA (GTD) use stone tires

There is not a big difference with the BOPs :

BOP Open GT :
Lamborghini Huracan GT3 : 1'290 kg / restrictors : 2x40mm
McLaren 650 S : 1'265 kg / restrictors : 2x38mm
Ferrari F458 GT3 = 1'260 kg / restrictors : 2x43mm
BMW M6 GT3 = 1'310 kg / Pboost : 1.65 to 7'000 rpm

BOP Blancpain GT (track cat.A) :
Lamborghini Huracan GT3 : 1'265 kg / restrictors : 2x38mm
McLaren 650 S : 1'265 kg / restrictors : 2x36mm
Ferrari F458 GT3 = 1'260 kg / restrictors : 2x43mm
BMW M6 GT3 = 1'310 kg / Pboost : 1.61 to 7'000 rpm

Silverstone :
GTE WEC 2015 (with Michelin confidential) = 1'59''970
GTE WEC 2016 (with Michelin confidential) = 1'58''885
GT3 Blancpain 2016 (with Pirelli customers) = 1'58''469

Spa Francorchamps :
GTE 2016 (WEC) = 2'17''632 (with Michelin tires confidential)
GT3 2016 (Open GT) : 2'15''746 (with Michelin tires customers)

At the price where cost the GTEs, the cars are very too slow especially with the best tires.

Isn't that because the P2s are no quicker and they don't want them overlapping? I'm guessing they'll loosen them slightly if next year's P2s are quicker, although probably only by the amount they're behind.

Still daft that the class even exists, in my opinion, it has no purpose other than avoiding admitting Ratel being correct IMO.

The Ford GT was nearly as fast as the P2's on Spa's straights. They make P2's faster next year and then maybe GTE can get sped up too.

At places like Paul Ricard the LMGTEs have been faster on straights than LMP2s for years now.

But that's only in LM and WEC, everywhere else they still have LMP3s and LMPCs and CNs and whatever to tackle on. They can't (well "can't") give universal increase if it doesn't affect all. The LMGTE-"AM" one-year-old chassis limitation will change to 2016 regs too next year...

Current GTE, which are still slower than p2 by some margin. And when those new P2's can go to regional series', the faster GTE's can as well. I think CN and P3 don't have to be involved in every series. Maybe run a prototype lights series where P3's can run as a support. I donno, it's up to them to figure it out.

GTE is a class that exists in good part to be more compatible with prototypes in how they make lap time. Remember how hilarious the Huracan was on the banking at Daytona.

2016 cars may not be much faster but with more aero dependence (Porsche aside) they should have more similar corner speeds to prototypes.

2016 GTLM got some hp, but not enough to win against the extra drag produced by new aero parts. Anyway, a huge power gain (about 550hp or more) can be achieved only by ferrari, ford and bmw turbo engines and by the corvette one. Aston martin and Porsche are already on the edge and very likely won't be possible to make them more powerfull, if not compromising reliability.
Because of that surely new 2017 mid-rear 991 RSR will use a turbo engine too, that should be a racing version of the one that will power the upcoming 991 gt2.
