Is Mike Halliday still racing in GT racing over in Europe? Last time I heard he was racing a WRT Audi R8 LMS in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

*Matt. Yes, I believe he is - still using the Audi too. I don't know what kind of results he's getting though.

Whoops his name is Matt indeed not Mike

Seems to be having an average year so far in BES with WRT. I still remember when he and Mike Parisy won a race with a Muehlner Motorsport Porsche in World GT1 last year.

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima is a legend of rally racing. He is especially known for his fearless attack of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and countless wins at this event. He is also a very busy business man as he works on design of various race cars as well as his own hill climb specials. Monster recently unveiled this very special AWD Toyota Sport Super GT race car. It’s wearing body panels that resemble the Toyota GT 86, but when you look more carefully – it’s all custom all wheel drive race car underneath.

It somewhat resembles Monster’s own Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb special, which Nobuhiro-san used to break the 10 minute barrier at Pikes Peak. The new Sport Super GT even uses the same sponsorship from GoPro. You might think that this is Monster’s ride this year for the 2013 Pikes Peak. That’s what I immediately thought. Well, it may not be the case. PPIHC website published the list of 2013 competitors and Monster is listed under the Electric division with Tajima Motor E-Runner. The E-Runner is the car Monster unsuccessfully used for last year’s race, and the E-Runner uses a totally different aerodynamics package than this Sport Super GT. It’s not clear if Monster is planning to use this Toyota GT 86 based race car or last year’s car for the 2013 race. Perhaps, the Sport Super GT is powered by electricity?

i guess it's a brand new car? didn't Suzuki own the escudo hill climb car?

i am sure it was reported that the unlimited cars he used at Cardrona over the years were the same chassis/drivetrain but different Aer(I)o as in bodyskin.

full gravel was a great course for Gr. B cars, 1/2 n 1/2.... not too cool, but full seal has opened it up to some seriously silly cars.
plenty of discussion here:

I got to say I think Loeb will be the class of the field, with the Full Factory team behind it and they look like they are spending some serious money. It is one of the events I'm really looking forward to watching.

Just heard some great news on the radio regarding kiwi ace rally driver Hayden Paddon. He has secured some more sponsorship via Vehicle Inspection NZ which will open up his chances of getting more exposure overseas. Great stuff

With the increase in funding Hayden is now able to undertake the rally of Australia

If there was a world championship for effort he sure would have to run close to winning it

It's a pity that pretty much any talented Kiwi who wants to race overseas has such a struggle to put funding together, and most never fulfill their full potential as a result. Whereas you have kids with super rich parents who can just buy a drive in F1 but are about as talented at driving as I am at sewing. Not naming names of course.

A fantastic effort by Brendan Hartley at le Mans. His times in the night sessions were brilliant, and showed his incredible ability is still there. Pity that mechanical woes stopped them from the podium, but he did nothing but good for his future. Well done.

Still reckon Hartley's worth a shot in an F1 car,he is blindly fast.

Reality check though, theres probably a million aspiring drivers world wide who are trying to get to 20 seats in F1.Lil ole NZ doesnt do to bad.
Theres an old film of F1 around in the '60s with Amon,Hulme & McLaren coming 1st,2nd & 3rd during a GP.That was cool.

So sad it comes down to money. Hartley has the speed and I believe talent. He was highly rated by Red Bull, and Merc still want him.
But F1s loss is Sportcars gain!

Do you need to "buy a drive" in a sportscar team if you're a young 'un, or are you likely to get paid for your efforts does anyone know?

Hi GB,

In the case of proven "shoe's like Brendon you can get paid and again in Brendon's case very well in fact. However there are still several very good Kiwi's such as Chris Vanderdrift, and Ritchie Stanway that were apparently unable to get even a free seat at Le Mans this year.

This year Brendon actually has a contract with Mercedes as their lead simulator pilot, that also includes a free Mercedes daily driver so he is doing the best of all our Kiwi's right now. Was also scheduled to drive in the Young Driver's F1 test, on the last day, but now that Mercedes put that test on the line, as a "kiss and make up with the FIA, unfortunately he loses that chance to prove himself in the real thing.

Cheers,

Mark.
