Crash and Burn should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mosley writes off Prost's old Team

The much-talked about takeover of the bankrupt Prost team by a consortium led by former BAR man Craig Pollock seems to have lost momentum.

FIA boss Max Mosley poured water on the idea at a speaking engagement this week, saying there wasn't "anybody on the horizon".

Even if there was they would have to be a group with "unlimited funds", according to Mosley, if they hoped to get to the grid in Australia on March 3, which is now only 14 days away.

Moseley said that in addition to all the debts, said to be in the region of $30 million, a buyer would also have to make sure Ferrari was paid to supply the team's engines.

"Well first of all you've got to pay off last year's money. Ferrari are going to say if you don't pay, we're not going to give you an engine," Mosely explained. "That's what the liquidator said.

"Then they probably will want money on account, and then might not have the engines anyway.

The current economic climate and the need for serious capital means that only a motor manufacturer could possibly field a team, based on a rescued Prost setup, in the Australian GP.

But according to Mosley, "there have been no serious inquiries from any of the major manufacturers", including VW and General Motors, but said "there is constant interest" in the sport.

"There's a dialogue going on, but there's no reason to suppose they are about to come in," he added.

Shame that the mandatory requirements don't made any place to anybody who wants "rent" at least one car to race them at Melbourne.

Next year possibly. Anyone who thought they'd have the car on the grid by Melbourne was, as I said at the time, delusional.

I read another snippet in F1 Racing. Max Mosely said that if the Prost team was bought it would have to be on the grid in Melbourne in order to 'keep' its F1 entry.

If it didn't then the slots on the grid would be made available to anyone who was interested.

I find this interesting as it was worded in such a way that obviously what the FIA don't want is Pollock or whoever simply buying Prost for the entry and not actually entering a team, merely selling the entry onto another party for a considerable profit!

By making the entry only guaranteed by racing the team -means that somebody has got to part with a lot more money than the £500,000 or so that Prost GP's bits & pieces are worth.
