I love this thread. While in the rallycross world now, I grew up at Lydden with TEAC (Dad was a marshall/steward) so was hooked on rallycross and special saloons from an early age.
Does anyone by chance remember my uncle Brian Leeks? He raced an Escort Mk1 at Lydden primarily from 1975-1979 (then went to S2000 with a Tiga). The Escort was black and silver an ex Fitzpatrick/Broadspeed if I remember correctly. It ran a 1300cc BDA or BDG.
The early years I remember the saloon races were dominated by John Homewood in a yellow and blue imp. Fantastically fast. The later years Brian always seemed to be battling Edward Punt (?) in a silver Escort Mk2 RS2000. I am in the States now but will see if Dad has any pictures anywhere.
I remember trips with Nick Whiting and us towing his yellow Ford van and trailer with our camper van when he broke down on the way home from Snetterton. They had me let go of the rope as we went around a roundabout to see if Nick could fire it up. I was only a kid but can't imagine doing any of that stuff now!
Great forum and hope to get to one of the events this year.
