Looks like you certainly have to VIVA GT I'm afraid. I wonder if the developers are in league with the NIMBYS

Playing Devils avocate here Stephen, but what it actually says is that it is not for sale. (If it had already been sold that could be the case).
Just using the same logic as a few months ago when McLaren catagorically denied that Paddy Lowe was leaving, last week they admitted that he was leaving...
I will say however as a big fan of Mallory Park from either side of the fence (as my avatar picture was taken at the hairpin), I hope it remains as a race circuit.

Mallory Park.

Please say no. I hope that it will never be a housing estate. I can only remember the great days when Don Trueman gave us his post race talk for the steps of race control. We had this trouble at Oulton Park but got over it with a cut off at 18-30hrs. Oulton also has lots of track days and that also must give Little Budworth something to moan about But what gets me is how long has Mallory been a race track and how long have residents lived there and if so they knew it would have a noise factor. As with Oulton I remember Mallory also didn't start on Sunday until the church service was over I maybe wrong. Well I will support a keep Mallory open. Good Luck all you Mallory Marshall's and Officials

I note that "testing"@ Mallory Park, will be cancelled on Wed 13th March...............due to unforeseen circumstance's.

That's a pity, I wanted to wake up some of the N.I.M.B.Y.'s that have moved to the area and complained about the noise.

...it went along the lines of "and Formula Ford drivers DON'T DO IT" - happy days.

I had "Save Mallory Park" on my PRS in 1982 and fortunately Chris Meek stepped in and took control.

Looking at a council response to a motorsport fan's email it seems the new Motocross maybe what has upset the residents and to be honest I cant help but feel some emphathy for them. Those two stroke things make a loud irritating noise and the track is situated high above the bowl that forms the main circuit. Maybe Mallory management have bought this on themselves to a certain degree.

The urgent meeting that was to be held this evening has now been cancelled as the proposed agenda, whatever it was, has not be confirmed and the local council cannot see the point of holding the meeting now.

Which just goes to show what a difficult and delicate path councils have to tread. Al enjoys the sound of the V8s but not the moto-X, the moto-x riders like the two strokes but not the V8s, all the residents know is that there is a constant engine noise from the circuit. Who do they listen to? Al, the Moto-X (who both help keep the area financially sound) or the residents (who pay the council tax). Ban the V8s which are loud but low frequency? Ban the 2 strokes which are quieter but higher frequency? Or throw their hands up in the air and say "blow the lot of you"?

When the residents moved there 20-30 years ago perhaps there were 10 - 15 race days, now there's race days, testing, track days, the circuit must be in use virtually daily and the activity itself is more popular. Every day there must be in excess of 100 competing cars coming through the village, plus hangers on and not all are the paragons of society that we all are, carefully respecting speed limits as we seek to minimise local disruption. Transit vans with trailers rattling past houses, boy racers blipping their throttles to make the noise echo off the walls, wannabes using the road as a track. It could be dreadful.

Some years ago when I worked at Combe my office was off site. It was noisier in the village than at the circuit and the biggest offender was the racing school and the tyres the FFords were using at the time. The cars were silenced very well, but the noise of the tyres droning round the track was extreme.

Playing Devil's Advocate, I think it possibly that the locals aren't NIMBYs in the accepted sense of the word but people who have said "Enough! This isn't what we signed up for when we moved here! We love having a racing circuit here but some boundaries must be drawn!" and I can empathise with them.

BTW I use numbers here for illustration only, I have no idea what the actual usage is but based on my experience at Combe I can see where they are coming from.

Being a 'local' I think it all stems from the 'Drift' issue whereby they madea lot of noise and smoke late at night.

As I understand it that this has been simmering since "Awesomefest 2011" which created on big pile of trouble for the circuit.

They had an agreement with the council dating back to the 80's that restricted the number of days that the circuit would operate. That pretty well allowed most weekends through they year. But in this day and age where a circuit has far higher costs, it needs to operate many more days to pay for it's own upkeep. I've seen numbers banded around as 85, or 96, but they want to "operate" for 160. They've had injunctions against them for operating too many days, and the council want to settle this out of court in the interests of all parties as they realise how much of an asset the circuit is for the area in terms of bringing money in, but they also have to balance the views of the residents who've had to put up with a load of crap from rowdies.

There was supposed to be a meeting with a residents committee, but it was cancelled when they got wind of protests being planned - and that's protests from both sides. They don't want it to get out of hand, and these MCN, Facebook, and forum articles are doing nothing but stir up anger and frustration.

We should let Chris Meek and his team sit down with the residents committee and the council and get an amicable agreement, without barrack room lawyers shouting the odds at twenty paces.

One of the relatively few measured and constructive comments. Social media like Twitter and Facebook have much to answer for.

The last 4 post made a lot of sense, all of them. The drifting thing should never have been allowed and more enthasis should be put on tyre noise as well as engine noise. I went to watch a short circuit race at Bovingdon years ago where I used to race and in an effort to appease the locals they had built earth banks around the oval, it did supress the noise but I could still hear the squealling tyres from a good distance. I think the rumble of a V8 will be less dsturbing to most people than that wretched wail of 2 stroke engines which just sound, well sh1te for want of a better word and I dont think the greatest fan in the world of the things could'nt argue with that. I also think they should drop the Boxing Day meeting as a goodwill gesture as I can see that being very annoying for the locals especially when they have vintage bikes on which I can never understand, the things are painfully noisy literally when as I you suffer from tinitus and its not pleasant at all, why are they not silenced?

The bikes at the Plum Pudding meeting are now all modern.

. . . & the Motocross bikes are mainly, if not all, four-strokes.
