Who was the best bttc racer over the last 10 years?

Who do you think was the best touring car driver over the last 10 years. I must say it was rickard rydell becasue of his speed and effort.

This poll is a little too narrow. Andy Rouse was probably the best I've ever seen but Paul Radisich is my favorite.

I don't really know, as it is very hard to choose. I think it has to be either Menu or Rydell for the 1990s, as they competed in the majority of the years at a competitve level. I think Cleland was a better driver, but he had much success in the 1980s too!

Not to mention Will Hoy and Gabriele Tarquini.

And restricting it to the last ten years rules out some absolute heroes.

I mean - a list of great touring car drivers without Gerry Marshall, Tony Lanfranchi, Win Percy, Vince Woodman, Dave Brodie, Bill McGovern, Bernard Unett, Steve Neal, Gawaine Baillie, Jack Sears, Denis Leech, John Whitmore, Richard Longman, Brian Muir...

Andy Rouse, the best ever.

Gabrele Tarquini, nobody came close to with the Alfa 155

Paul Radisich, A gentleman and a great driver, never given the best car.

Jo Winklehock, pure entertainment.

John Cleland will always be the greatest racer the BTCC has seen, especially in the ST era-he was never the best qualifier, or the best at tact. But when it came 2 racing, for position or championships, he was untouchable.

Well, the original post says nothing about the BTCC, so I'll chuck a couple of aussies names in to the ring...

1. Craig Lowndes
2. Mark Skaife

Those two blokes are the two that have really impressed me over the years in the V8 Supercars.

Of the poms, I'd say Cleland. To be honest, they only time I have seen him race was at Bathurst this year...but he was great. In a car he barely knew, on one of the toughest tracks in the world, driving for a team that's used to being at the back of the pack, he and Brad Jones managed to scramble home in 2nd place. Stunning.

Okay, depressed now, you've just reminded me that Bathurst was on the TV the other night and I did actually have every intention of setting the video....one of these days I'll actually remember that I have a plan to set the video

Urrghh, what a shame. Being a Cleland fan, I'm sure you would have loved it. John and Brad Jones did a superb job, and it was great to see them do what they did

Hopefully next year he does well too, let's hope you remember to set the VCR then...LOL

I happen to agree with Takuma

(There's my bias!). Tarquini was always so exciting to watch, especially in-car, as was Winkelhock. Rouse has got to be the smoothest driver I've ever seen, as well as probably the best.

Sorry, but when has he ever looked truly stunning? In 1995, when things went his way, I think it was more Rydell and Menu screwing up, than Cleland being great.

Oh, and look how 'well' Cleland did in 1999. Ahem.
