BRDC MX-5 Cup
So what do we know about this? All I remember (being a kid then) was Patrick Watts and Mark Lemmer being the quick guys, in 1990 and 1991. What happened? Where are the cars now? Any photos/results/entry lists/memories? Can't find much online about it, a shame considering the current popularity of the (unrelated) MX5 championships that recently appeared.

In the 90,s I was heavily into sprinting and one of our colleagues who always won his class in a Toyota Corolla moved into the mx5 championship. His name was John Blennerhaset , sorry if I have not spelt it correctly.
I well remember doing a race at Brands, I was in the 750mc roadsports race in my elan, and the meeting was sponsored by the Evening Standard,I think there was a free ticket in the paper so about 1500 spectators turned up! John came down on the previous day to have extra practice with 2 mechanics, he wasn,t mechanically hands on, and did the race the next day. Unfortunately he was punted off at paddock on the 1st lap so we reckoned his 500yds of competion cost him about £1500, paying for over night stays, sets of tyres etc. I luckily finished my race intact , cost for the day £150? Great memories, sadly John is no longer with us . martin |
