Claude Storez

Fellows,

I am looking for information about the French driver Claude Storez, who achieved two class wins in the 12 Hours of Reims (1301 to 1600 cm3 class with Jo Bonnier in 1957, and 1301 to 2000 cm3 with von Frankenberg in 1958).

Any tidbit is welcome.

Thanks,

Muzza

Claude Storez was killed during an accident in the Rallye des Routes du Nord in February 1959. Storez was one of France's foremost rally drivers, and was Champion of France in 1957 (Porsche). Later he took up circuit racing, and in 1958 was declared F2 Champion of France.

Hey, Sat,

Thanks a lot!

One point that is puzzling me: you said that Storez was killed during a stage of the Rallye des Routes du Nord, right?

I read in the book Reims, Vitesse, Champagne et Passion, by Dominique Dameron-Derauw, Cyrille Mélin and Jean-Pierre Mélin (ISBN 2-911353-25-0) that Storez perished in an accident in the Reims circuit, but there is no additional information whatsoever about his death... (his name is mentioned in the book opening).

Then, in the last pages of the book, there is brief mention that says that "during many years the Rallye des Routed du Nord made a stop at the Reims Gueux track, where qualification rounds took place".

So, is the mystery of the death of Claude Storez solved?

Also, do you know what car did he used in his 1958 Formula 2 campaign?

Thanks indeed,

Muzza

Two more questions abou Storez:

- would you know his date and place of birth?

- and date of death?

Thanks,

Muzza
