Its an Ae82 the first pic then the second pic is a Ae92. The Ae86 was the RWD version built up to about 1985. Ae82 started about 1984.

Try ringing John Smith at Ferguson's Toyota in Hurstville (Sydney). He was the lead driver for a long time and might be able to put you in touch with the right people.

Tony Niovanni was the team manager. John Faulkner was another driver.

David, was that the RWD car that was most commonly known as the Sprinter?

Yes, the AE86 was the last RWD Corolla, it was sold in Australia as the Sprinter.

TTA cars

I know this thread hasn't been visited for a while. But for all of you who are still interested on some details I maybe be able to provide some info since I was working for TTA as chief technician from 1986 until the stopped end of 1990.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Do you know the reason the team ran a Celica at the '87 Australian Grand Prix meeting?

TTA

TTA did never run a Celica in the ATCC at all. As far as I remember this car was run by a private team "Peter Williamson Toyota". Reason for this was that Toyota Japan wanted us to run in the small class for marketing reason and the Corolla was the quickest car up to 1600cc and even later when CAMS eliminated the 1600cc class and made a class up to 2000cc we were still faster than the NISSAN Gazelle driven by Mark Skaife. We also achieved a Guinness book record of 24 consecutive win in row. The only time TTA ran a bigger car was in 1990 the Toyota Supra which was not very successful at al because the car was to heavy and had lack of HP against Holden, Ford and Nissan.

It was a one off at the '87 AGP at Adelaide. John Smith apparently drove it.

Here's a link to a picture.

They had to 'borrow' the celica from NZ for the one race because they ran out of corollas at Bathurst. Cant remember the details but was a lot of damage.

Dance of the sugar plum Corollas had both of them royally rooted... Why did they need to enter a car at all? Its not like there were franchise fees on the line...

Toyota might have had a prominent corporate box booked at the Grand Prix. Fall a little flat with no car to watch.

Ah, the good old days when their Corollas didn't have a chance of winning (outright), rather than their F1 duds

These pictures are from 1992, do you have any earlier pics?

I thought Geoff Full bought the ex-Ratcliff Bob Holden built Sprinter and i thought Peter Verheyen bought an ex TTA Sprinter. Confused...........

Is your uncle Geoff Full or Peter Verheyen?

Hey David,
My uncle is Peter Verheyen.
I do have some earlier pics somewhere......ill have to dig them out.
The 2nd pic is 91...the rest are 92
In the 90 ATCC the car was blue.
It got painted for the 91 season.
Im not sure if it was a TTA car to start with?
