In the future lmp1 rules thread, there was some talk about drs being allowed and adjustable front and rear wings so there wasn't a need to make two separate body kits during the season. Btw, this evo car is still 849kg, which is heavier than the new lmp1's like Rebellion's Oreca and the SMP BR Dallara. |

made a virtual version of 919 EVO for my modded gtr2, starting from my low drag 2017 919 physics, added +50% overall diffuser aero a +50% front and rear wing. 928kg weight, power >1000hp from 6000rpm. Because of sideskirt, set rideheight to 4.0cm on front and 4.5 on rear.
Spa: low 1.43 max speed 362km/h le mans: high 2.52 max speed 372km/h. As predicted after few laps, car goes airborne before indianapolis. |

It's also pretty obvious but utterly meaningless that the cars could perform much better aerodynamically if unchained from worrying about landing in spectator areas. |

Some drawings by Pan Nullo about the aerodynamic differences of the 919 EVO.

Maybe it wouldn't fly? I mean sure, I guess that's possible (although just by virtue of the massive increase in cornering speeds you've considerably added to the problem), but the point of the rules is to not have a "maybe" based on individual car designs. I have no idea why you're fixating on the side skirts to start with, it has no fender holes, and an oversized underbody and rear wing that mean it significantly exceeds the legal overhang limits. These are all things the ACO and FIA have spent millions of dollars researching to reduce the likelihood of take off of prototype cars as a general case. |

I don’t think that there is anything new in this, but here is another summary of the changes.

I don't really think there is a legitimate comparison to be made.
What would happen if Ferrari put an unrestricted F1 special to lap spa? It would probably also smash the existing F1 track records. With blown diffuser, blown RW, DRS around the whole lap, and no requirement for the engine to last for 1/3rd of the season. What Porsche did is nice, but what's the value of comparing and unregulated LMP car to a regulated F1 car? |

Rennsport at Laguna sounds exciting. Hope there is coverage on internet streaming for it. Hopefully all of the Porsches will be there. Probably the ones to look most forward to are 1) 919 2)911 RSR 3)911 GT3R 4)RS Spyder 5)Porsche GT1s between 1996-1998

The car did exactly what Porsche wanted it to - grab more words in the motorsport and general press than it has through the WEC in recent times

Imo it's because of 3 words; "faster than f1" F1 is the most popular form of motorsport so when you see a title like that it turns heads.

Really? Should they have ignored it? It’s not like the season had started and there is that much more interesting.
Or should they cover the other stuff more, or cover the WEC races more? They don’t because not that many care! This actually brings a small bit of coverage to sportscar. Even on its slightly false way. The press is crap, but I’m not sure this demonstrates it. |

I wonder if any of Porsche's (and Audi's) lmp1 personnel were involved in this monster http://e-racing365.com/other-series/...es-peak-entry/
At least the diveplanes look similar to the 919's |

Did Gerhard Berger mention that Porsche would go to F1 in 2021 depending on the new regulation?
