Racing A40's?

Does anybody know of any competition A40's that are still about? I remember seeing a red c/w white roof one at Brands in 97'ish, but that seems to of disappeared.

Shame theres not more of them out on the circuits, after all it's A-series! Not knackered for tuning bits!

Adam.

ianselva, yes of course, Thruxton.
He tended to race mainly there and at Combe I recall, but I do remember him coming to Silverstone and Snetterton with the car.

According to the CTCRC website an A40 (Martin Elson)competed in the classic and historic touring car race at Rockingham in April (also an A50 and two A35's) - sadly I didn't see the race as I was sawing down my new wheel arches for the CT race as my tyres were too big !

Pop along to Donington on Sunday for the Ferrari festival (bizarrely) and you'll see 2 A40's - Ivor Miller and Derek Harris in the Top Hat Oldies but Goldies race (along with our 100E)

Peter Brock raced a Holden 6 powered A30 early in his career.

http://www.autopics.com.au/cache/ite....html?cache=no

It was restored a couple of years ago by his son James and they still own it. However it isn’t road going and is only brought out occasionally to display.

Peter Bevan, son of George Bevan started his racing career in an Austin A40 and also fitted an aerodynamic? front end (well it was the swinging sixties) on it. It looked more like an early styling excercise for the droop snoot Escort of the seventies, but it was a fast car, ran in the 1000cc class if memory serves me well.

I seem to recall a red & white A40 in the Sixties saloons series a few years ago, driven bloody quickly by David Lewis I think.

A Tait, I do remember the 850 class from the sixties and seventies, but I have no memrobilia from that time at all, as I was just getting into teens at the time and not all useful info was kept, especially with house moves, parents divorcing etc.
I suspect that I did see your Mini racing, but I also suspect that it was mainly seen on the Midlands circuits.
Good luck with the car, and if I do find any info I will pass it on.

A chap called Peter Jurgens raced a very quick 1-litre A40 in Special saloons in the late 70s/early 80s. Sometimes entered as the 'Hiorns A40', I suppose they were his sponsors. It used to go very well against the Imps/Stillettos of the period.

Bring back those fab gassers!

The A40 Farinas at Mallory were really fast and surprisingly stable through the esses where 'greater' machinary came to grief. Could be driber talent though..

Could be the fact I was told that one had £60k spent on it over the years and the other was up for sale for £28k :-) You see this to me is what is spoiling this historic stuff, how on earth can one of those or its predecesor the A35 be worth this kind of money in a sane world.

Most of the field of small saloons where made up of A40s and Anglia's in the early to mid 60s. I virtually lived at Brands and used to follow the Molyslip Championship. Unfortunately I was witness to Chris Airey getting killed in 63 after he barrel rolled at the old bottom bend in his A40 and was thrown out.
Obviously the safety build of the cars then were not like today and I don't know if seat belts were even mandatory at the time.
I decided after that if I could ever afford to go racing it would be in an Anglia.
