McLaren's Stealth Pod?
F1Racing's testing photos from Feb 3rd show one of the McLarens (Pedros)with an small black pod mounted next to the side pod. Any thoughts?

As a pure guess, its some kind of tyre camera / sensor device.

It seems to have both ends open...???
May be its a monitor/guage/sensor for air flow in that area of the car...?? Cheers Peter |

Airflow sensors aren't that big though.
Looks more like a particle accelerator cannon for those pesky Renaults. |

Perhaps it's just a better way of deflecting air around the rear tyre.

its the handlebars to a carbon fibre, fold away bicycle the drivers will need to ride back to the pits when the car expires at the back of the circuit. This too will suffer constant mechanical failure.

It's not just Pedro's car either, i've seen the same on Paffett's car too, and on both sides. Have yet to find a decent enough shot of JPM to see if he has or hasn't got anything like it. Given it's position tho, i think it's aero related one way or another. Sticking a gauge in the middle of nowhere like that isn't going to prove anything, esp that size

Thermographic camera, so that they can catch the heat plume influence from the engines expolsion on the rear tyres.

There was a thread about these last year. Williams ran something similar on their roll-hoops last winter.
Like several peoplr have said, it was concluded that they are aero measuring devices. |

If the Williams thing is the same thing I'm thinking of, It's a high deffinition camera (as in better than the FIA ones) for TV adverts they did at the time

no no no that's something else yet again. They had a pod which looked exactly like this one but on top of the car.
