For a test day you'll need at least Nat A or B and for a track day (if you can find one that'll allow open wheelers) you only need your car licence.

You're right there falce, I went to a "track day" to test my car that had a misfire problem, and just took my race licence. However the powers that be did phone Swansea to check so all was not lost !

I wouldn't have thought so and you won't be able to do a track day either.

There may be times that unlicensed /under age drivers can drive round a circuit but not on general track days.

A point of interest do you have to have a road licence to get a normal Nat A or B licence. Why I ask this is in my dim and distant past I got banned on the road 2 or 3 times but still carried on racing. This was about 25 or so years ago perhaps things have altered.

These days, Gordon, if you get banned on the road, your race licence is also invalid for the period of the ban.

Which I think is quite bloody ridiculous especially if the ban was imposed from a penalty points system and accumulated for minor speeding offences, smacks of hypocrosy to me. Do they ask you for details of a your current driving licence when you apply for a race licence? I cannot recollect forwarding that information so what on earth does it have to do with MSA or FIA if you dont have a current road licence for whatever reason? I continued racing HotRods with a driving ban years ago but then again they always seemed to have a more sensible down to earth attitude to things.

There are several formulas which allow 16 year olds to compete, how do they get on when they want to test?

No,They pay thier money and go along and do the ARDS course!

Not sure if the "No Road Licence" thing still stands,I know it used to be that way,but I thought it had changed a couple of years ago?

I suspect that is the case, otherwise the 16 year olds simply would not be competing.

I'm not sure your racing licence is automatically revoked if you're banned. I think your licence can be revoked if you "bring the sport into disrepute" - IIRC an off-road champion lost her MSA licence after being convicted of drink driving.

Although I have never tested the system, I have always believed that speeding wouldn't be taken seriously by the MSA, but drink driving would. If that really is the case it is at least a blow for common sense on both counts.

You've all got me worried now. I am potentially going to lose my road licence for a year, due to "dangerous driving" even though I am 100% innocent, if I have my racing car up n running by next year I thought I could race during my road ban.

Don't worry. I'm sure you would fit in the BTCC nicely.

I know how you feel about being innocent & still getting "done".I've had it on a non driving "event" where the only witness happened to be their nephew who testified against me. needless to say you're if you take on the law.
Best of luck rcarr

Cheers col. I will appeal it if I get banned, they have no evidence against me, all the evidence is with me.

I don't see how anyone at the MSA would know whether you have a car licence or not unless someone tells on you?
Can someone point to where it mentions that you need a car licence to hold an MSA licence, after all how many SaxMax or T car drivers hold full UK car licences?

If they have "No Evidence",How come you have recieved the N.I.P?.I should have thought you'd be better off ensuring you dont lose you' license rather than appealing after you've lost it!.Sometimes the appeal system can take longer than the ban.

You do not need a full UK License in order to take your ARDs. Whether it can cause problems or not at the individual circuit ie are they happy to let you out to take your test I don't know, but there are circuits where you definitely don't need a full UK license.

I'd keep very quiet. I don't think the Blue Book says anything about this - I think it'd only be high profile cases, so in your interests not to let the MSA know.

I think you were discussing a friend of yours in this situation, weren't you...?
