Idea to support development of rallycross

Just recently I had a conversation with a mate who is heavily into speedway who was asking whether rallycross had ever considered adopting its team/club competition format as a way of boosting clubman/regional rallycross.

His suggestion was that by having regional clubs you would provide a place for new people to get involved and by having good club competition you would encourage people to stay involved through encouraging rivalries. The format might be something like the old internations cup but for British clubs rather than nations.

Looking at where drivers come from I guess you would be looking at clubs based around Lydden, Croft, South West and maybe the Midlands (you'd probably have to market them as London, Teeside, Birmingham, Bristol etc). If you had a two day meeting, one day could be for the individual championship and one day for the team.

No harm in posting the idea to see what people thought....

Think there was something like this in the very early days of Rallycross, drivers from the South (Lydden) vs drivers from the North (Croft)...

I would think it could work if there were enough drivers

But tracks are struggling to attract any at the best of times.

I can't see a problem with the idea, but in the past there was always a bit of a north south thing, understandably with the travel invovled.

Does the UK still have the 'Hot Rod Racing' that the likes of Barry Lee competed in in the 1970s ?
I imagine the circuits would not be considered safe enough now that they used then.
Does the UK have dirt tracks for a training ground for rallycross ?
