I feared the worst when I saw the accident, I guessed that there was a serious injury sustainted due to the lack of information.

A massive shame to lose such a young talent.

My thoughts and wishes are with the Surtees family.

RIP Henry.

Such a freak accident too, just half a second either way and he'd probably still be here

Got home from Brands just before this utterly terrible news was released. Henry and John both kindly signed an autograph for me on Friday; little did I know how poignant that page of the programme would become.

R.I.P. Henry, my sincere condolences to the family and friends.

How sad for the family and so strange that his father John raced through the dangerous era on both 2 and 4 wheels, yet poor Henry died in what is now a pretty safe time for drivers. I recently read an interview with John in the Motor Sport Magazine and marveled at his exploits. My condolences go out to the family, his team and all his friends.

My thoughts are with John and his family. For a father to have cheated death so often in his career and find that luck leave his son is far too cruel a fate. Tragic.

I am lost for words tonight. I'm a bit shellshocked. To lose a driver who was 5 days younger than me who I saw racing at Thruxton last year really brings it home. To lose a driver in this day and age in general is bad enough. In a way I'm glad I didn't see the race live - I left the house after the first WTCC race...

I fear this may overshadow both this season in F2 and the new series in general for as long as it lasts. Amongst all others, I can't bear to think what Jonathan Palmer's going through tonight

This is incredibly tragic - such a freak accident, that could happen even in the safest open-wheel cars in the world. It brings home how lucky his dad was to survive when he did.

All thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and fans - the entire motorsports world grieves when something like this occurs.

I also feel for Jack Clarke, although absolutely no blame can be attributed for him he must be feeling awful about this.

An accident like this brings us back to reality, our sport is dangerous and whilst we have improved it in this respect out of all recognition from my young days it is still dangerous and very very sad when fate conspires to take a life. I grew up marvelling at the exploits of John Surtees and read this news with a heavy heart

The thoughts of myself and my wife are with the Surtees family who will have many conflicting emotions today. Also with the organisers and marshalls/officials who had to deal with the situation. Lets us think what we can learn from it

There but for the grace of God

So sad to hear this. 18 is not a good age to go..

I'm so sad, it's the first time that a driver younger than me dies.

My thoughts are with the Surtess family.

What a terribly unfortunate accident. Seeing it on TV it was obvious that it was serious but still a horrible feeling when the worst was confirmed. My thoughs are with Sir John and his family of course but also with the other driver and with the marshals, both bank and rescue, who dealt with the scene. I hope you are all OK, if not do remember the assorted counselling services available to you, both official and unofficial.

Rest in Peace Henry.

Sad, sad news.
