Long does Manor FR deal
At last - a driver not in a rush to get to F1 and potentially risk his career. Long's decision to sign for Manor in Formula Renault and not fall victim to today's 'fashionable' route of Ford-F3 shows he has a wise head on his young shoulders. Good luck to the tike. And Alex Lloyd whose been snapped up by Motaworld.
Its all in todays Motorsport Nwes. John Village and Status from ireland are also coming into Renault with two car teams. With the likes of Hamilton, Griffin and Robert Bell also on the grid this championship for 2002 is looking like the one to do for drivers. Congrats to Renault on a terrific EQUAL formulae which is starting to attract the right drivers (gosh was it only two years ago in when the old spaceframe formulae was struggling to get more than 12 cars on the grid)? What a turn-around. |

It does look like it could be a good formula next season, its good to see 3 or 4 definite steps on the "ladder" in the UK (Junior FFord, FFord, FRenault, F3 - I'm still to be convinced by FZip, but my mind is open).
Its also good to see Pat Long pick up a top line drive. |

I agree with you Marshal. F Renault was pretty good some years ago but then Renault seemed to withdraw their support. That's half the trouble with these series. Remember they did the same to the original Clio Cup, Honda did it with the Civic Challenge, the list goes on. The only people who have stuck with a single make series year after year are Ford with F Ford!

Stephen - have you gone mad?! Renault withdrawing support for their ch'ships? Ford continuing to support FFord? Ford couldn't even announce a prize fund in 2001 for Ford Zetecs then canned Fiestas. Now it's clearly no interest in FFord as BMP have had to take it over. Parc ferme's going to be fun with no technical support from the manufacturer. I can easily see the title might be decided in a courtroom in May 2003.
Renault's two ch'ships in Britain seem to be booming meanwhile. Not only that but Formula renault has now taken off around the world not only in Europe but Asia, USA, canada and South America. So think again! |
