Surprised at the gap between the top 2 in qualifying one but the second session was mighty tight! 0.009 covering top 3!
BTW When did Katherine Legge return to racing? |

Katherine should hopefully return to racing tomorrow. This was a very late deal to race with SYR this weekend, but as yet the number of laps she's completed has scarcely reached double figures.
And looking at that gap in the second session - the gap between the first four was 0.028s. As close as the first one wasn't - that was an awesome performance from Piquet. van der Merwe's looking solid, Green seems to be in slightly better form, Fabi is quicker than ever and Austin is out of sorts. |

Piquet stalled at the start of race 1 and was avoided by everyone, except for the fire truck

The racing does aswell, this year has been one boring procession after another.
Don't understand it, sure we had a few dull races last year but the majority saw good battles throughout the field and drivers such as Robbie Kerr proved passing is possible in F3. I remember him pulling a superb move off at Lodge in 2002 yet this year I stood there for both races and never saw one driver even atempt a pass. This year all the drivers seem to give up and slot into position after the first corner and never look at making a move. The only driver who ever looks like he is trying or could possibly make a move is Adam Carroll. A few more like him and we might actually have some decent battles. F1 go on about going back to slicks and having one piece wings and all that and they would see some good racing. Hang on a second isn't that what we've got in F3? Perhaps they should have come and yawned through some of the races we've seen this year. The real testers will be rockingham and Thruxton. If there's no battles on these two 'slipstreaming' circuits then theres no hope Last edited by Gaz; 15 Jul 2003 at 10:12. |

I doubt the Fire Truck had a forward facing one... although you never know, BHP are pretty good! ;-) Piquet stalled and got clobbered on the left rear by Thompson. When the rest of the field got by, Piquet started moving and quickly realised he wasn't going anywhere fast so he pulled over to the pit wall side of the track (on the right - the nearest side to him) as he probably saw the rescue van coming up quickly on his left. The Fire Truck was a fair distance behind the field and tried to hug the pit wall side... then made contact with Piquet's right rear. I'll say "racing incident" until I see more video footage. The way the Fire Truck bounced I'm glad it didn't do more damage to Piquet or his car. |

Maybe Piquet should have just stayed where he was? He ought to have known that there would be track vehicles passing him. Equally, though, the fire truck should have passed wide to the left. So 'racing' incident is a fair assessment.
As for the racing and the lack of overtaking - well it has been very disappointing this season. Fairuz Fauzy, although a little further down the field, is one that makes up places and tries to pass on occasion. |

Come on, most of F1 is a dull procession these days. There was some overtaking this weekend, if you were at the wrong corner to see it, it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Considering you cover F3 on your website Gaz, it amazes me that you have these complaints.
I'll admit, that '99 had more movement on track though. |

I cover F3 and I love it yes but tell me where this weekend there was overtaking? I don't think there was any inside the top 10 after the first lap. I stood the first race at Lodge and the second on the run between Old Hall and Cascades where I could see half the track. Still I saw no overtaking.
I've only missed one race all season and I can't say I've been gripped this year like I was last. I remember some epic Courtney/Kerr battles like at Thruxton and Silverstone but this season I don't think I can remember one battle and correct me if I'm wrong there has only been one overtaking move which has changed the lead after the first lap all year hasn't there? I agree F1 is dull but even there you do see the odd overtaking move inside the top 5/6 now and again. Sorry to sound so down it's just I have been very unimpressed with the standard of racing this year and I've read various articles in motorsportnews and autosport which are along the same lines so it's not just me Last edited by Gaz; 15 Jul 2003 at 21:07. |

F3's racing on the infield course at Rockingham, not the oval, right? It's a shame the oval plans fell through.

The plans for the oval race were from the circuit, not a good move a week before the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort, which is a race of major importance for the teams and their sponsors.
