Murray

My father now owns this car. It was sold by Douglas Jamieson to Geoffrey Williams in 01 who used it in Hgpca pre 66 with the 1500 twincam. My dad bought it in August 06 from Geoffrey.

You are correct, it is the ex John Willment car from 64, T55 SL64/2 or 1 can't quite remember without checking, however it was originally the ex 63 Winklemann Racing mK5A, BRJ 58 formula junior driven by Alan Rees.

My dad is currently having it converted back to the Formula Junior ensemble.

Interestingly it was also used as a Formula Ford in 68 by Geddis Yeates and 69 by Chris Alford.

BRJ 45 was the second Lola Equipe Team Mk5, as seen at the bottom of this page:

BRJ51 (which would have originally been a Mk5) appears to be with Haydon Mills (Australia) being restored back to its Formula Junior spec.

The first Mk5A BRJ54 was owned by Pieter Boel (Australia) as of mid-2002.

Hi guys, out of interest, and maybe to muddy the waters , here is a scan of Lola's chassis log for the Mk5/5A.

Thanks Gerald. That should move us a good way forward.

I was talking to someone the other day about early Lolas and I think they said that several replica Mk 5s were built completely openly some years ago and have chassis numbers to show what they are. So like the ten Cameron Millar Maserati 250Fs or the Tony Merrick ERA "AJM1". Did I get that right?

Thanks for posting the list Gerald. I am rebuilding MRP Ex T55- T54- Mk5a Chassis. Some interesting dialoge is taking place here.

MRP Lola

The chassis I have is an early Mk5a that went through The F2 development to T55, BRJ57.
I have seen Gerald list - How can SL.. and (BRJ59) Be the same car - as they raced together? I have Lola/MRP reciept for the Slough Car SL...which only states in exchange your(MRP) old chassis.
Is this LOLA list retrospective /when was it written. Its almost the Turin shroud isn't it?

Does anyone know the identity of Lola MK5a on the Lola stand at The 1963 Racing Car Show?

I'm pretty sure the list was done in the 1980s using - probably - invoice records. What was "SL3/65"?

From Gerald's list BRJ53 B Ferrari is a mystery to me. Presumably Bruno Ferrari but I have no record of him in a Lola FJ. Any thougts?

SL3/65 I think this should be SL1/64 as driven by Rich Ginther etc the 1964 MRP SPARE car?The T55 car that was still used in 65 with the T60's. The car was turned out of the factory as a brand new T55 in 1964. SL2/64 was the second as new T55 car(BRJ58 as was). The BRJ58 chassis was lost for a while then found under a pile of tyres in a warehouse near HEATHROW according to Mick Mobberly EX MRP mechanic).

SL1/64 car was later recorded as a hill climb car used in Scotland.

BRJ59 and BRJ57 went thru the development process to become T54
and then laterly T55 spec cars.(I can elaborate on these specs)
The other MRP Chassis are less than clear as those exported to America in 1964 don't seem to have retained their chassis plates.

RAP - There is an ad in Autosport Dec 21st 1962 for Bruno Ferrari's White 1962 Mk5 Lola with Cosworth engine and six speed gearbox. This ad indicates the car was only lightly raced on the continent during 1962.

A six speed gearbox would be fairly uncommon for this type of car??

I have found photos at Autopics http://www.autopics.com.au/default.html of what appears to be a Mk5 from Australia in 1964. The photos are captioned D.Fletcher - Lola Calder 1964 David Fletcher entered a Lola in the Australian Grand Prix in 1964, so obviously it is him. Does this link in with David Fletcher who drove a Lotus 20 in FJ in GB in 1963, or Donald Fletcher who drove a Mk5 in the same races, and is this likely to be BRJ51?

Hey piglos

If you ask David Blanch on info@autopics.com.au he may well allow the low-res version to be posted here to help us (in return for a big plug for what a wonderful website he has and how his pictures are very reasonably priced).

Sorry about that transgression.

I have received news from the current owner of this car Haydn Mills whose car is in the Australian Formula Junior newsletter, and I am just awaiting confirmation that they quoted the correct chassis number as it does appear to be BRJ51.

Hi again, here's a bit more fuel for the fire. Glyn Jones has been delving in the deepest, darkest bowels of the Lola Archives and has found several letters and some notes relevant to the discussion.

It's not certain who the author of the note is but from other sections on it, it would appear to have been written in the mid-sixties and Glyn thinks it could be by former Lola Director Robbie Rushbrook.

As there are several scans I've put it on the Heritage site and you can view it here: http://www.lolaheritage.co.uk/history/types/mk5/mk5.htm.

Gerald.

George Henrotte selling 1963 Lola ex Berrow Johnson Autosport 25.2.65 p. 316, so that moves BRJ-54 on a bit

Absolutely first rate stuff Gerald! Could you send Glynn into the caves on regular missions to pull interesting stuff out at random?

Well Chris that's the plan, Glyn has been staggering over to my house with all sorts of files and folders from Lola's Archives for the past year and my scanner is now whimpering quietly in the corner. The plan is to put as much as possible up on the Heritage site on the basis of you never know what somebody might be looking for or find fascinating .

I currently have nearly 5000 items and I will be starting to add things in the near future, in addition there are all sorts of things in hand at the moment. In the next couple of days I'll be adding a great set of photos to the Scrapbook section of the site, they were taken by Bill Woolridge who used to work at Lola. They are of many of the cars he worked on such as some of the F5000 and CanAm cars, they are just straightforward snaps he took of the cars but that's what makes them interesting.

Gerald.

A bit of confirmation Re the earlier posts about Chris Alford having a T55 in F Ford. I have seen a programme for Snetterton 8 June 69 that has a few chassis numbers hand-written including SL2/64 against Alford.
