Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems that there is an incompatable connection. It could be between you and him, or one of your other friends and him.
This has happened to me on many occasions, but has become less frequent with my new router. What I do not understand is I have friends who have their XBox connected to cell phones and dial-up connections... while I understand the glitchiness, I am dumbfounded that sort of connection would work at all. |

Check NAT is open, I have this issue but I cannot change my router settings due to it being supplied and controlled by my dads company, ruins online racing as I can't race anyone at all, all though using ethernet nat is open but my connection is really low.

I've come across this A LOT in the league I'm involved in, and it's a pain in the behind. You can do a couple of things, if possible use a wired connection between your Xbox and Router (if that is even possible, I'm lucky, my router and Xbox are 15cm apart...) I've found that Port Forwarding is the best way of sorting this out. If you google/youtube your internet provider and make/model of your router there should be a good walkthrough there which will explain how to do it. It makes your connection far more stable and I've had way less connection issues than I previously did!
