RIKB should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Well with not much racing going on at the moment I thought I would watch A BTCC Video I recently aquired. The ESSO 1992 season.

It was a great way to spend a wet and windy afternoon! With such drivers as Cleland, Hoy, Soper, Rouse, Gravitt etc. and an interesting mix of cars including Toyota's, Mazda's, Nissans, Vauxhalls and more BMW's than you could poke a stick at!

The title fight was a three way affair that went down to the last race. John Cleland (Vauxhall) Will Hoy (Toyota) and Tim Harvey (BMW).

Harvey won the title after his team mate (Soper) punted cleland off, provoking his famous outburst "What are we doing here? Stock car racing??"

Have you any favourite old vids that will be brightening your off season?

Rik, you're making me jealous, very very jealous!
Thanks to Invader, I was able to spend a nice afternoon while on holiday in July watching the 1989 season video - brilliant

You've just reminded me, I've still not watched the 1999 season review - I only bought it in December!

I watch the 1990 video to see Frank Sytner getting punted off by his Junior team mates. . Still looking for that elusive 89 video though.

In the lead up to the 19th of November I have been watching all of my Bathurst videos, which date back to the days of the 500 on Phillip Island...ahhh.

I have a copy of the best latest release video around. Larry Perkins - The Endurance Man. I haven't had a chance to watch it, but as it was free to those who went to V8Superstars it must be the best

I can't imagine you would get them new anywhere. I got the three I mentioned above off of the E bay Auction site. there are other auction sites too, might be worth keeping a lookout there.

RIKB, you don't recall outbidding some fellow called "ourtim" for those videos, by any chance???

Eddie, and indeed everyone, the history of the pre '91 BTCC videos is tangled and sorry.

The tapes for '88, '89 and '90 were originally released by BHP through Virgin Video. And someone in Virgin isn't letting the copyright lapse - neither are there any plans for a re-release. '87 is even more obscure. It was released by an oil company as a promo tape, and is somewhat limited in its scope. But it does exist.

All this is basically to say that if you see one of the Virgin videos, buy it - because they have all been out of print since 1992, and really are as rare as rocking-horse droppings.

For real ancient history, it's also worth looking out for "Classic Saloon Car Racing" by PP Video, which is Ford's promotional film of the 1968 season - lots of lovely Escorts, Anglias, Mini Coopers, as well as Mustangs and Imps.

And yes, I do have all of the above (although my 1990 has some sound drop-outs in the interviews) and no, I'm not lending them out, because I lost one last year, and had to pay a trader a small fortune to replace it. Of course, if any trusted 10-tenths person happens to wander by with a video edit suite in their possession, who knows what might happen.....

If you were outbid by someone called rikblak, then its guilty as charged I'm afraid.
