No chance for DC at Williams then?...

...To be perfectly honest, i didn't think there would be, but his name has been mentioned along with Jenson Button, Mark Webber and Jacques Villeneuve, to replace JPM in 2005.

Just read this on.... Autosport

Quote:
from Patrick head.......

"David is an interesting one," said Head. "We decided not to continue with him at the end of 1995. He's a difficult guy to work out. When he's really good he's perfect. But then you think he'll go to the next race and be perfect again and instead he's quite ordinary.

"I've never managed to work out why that is. I sometimes wonder that he's an intelligent guy and he puts so much into it, that sometimes he might be a little too intense. But the fact is he's had seven opportunities in a pretty competitive car and he's been outperformed by Mika and then Kimi. That's the difficult one if he's looking for a job elsewhere in F1 – it'd be difficult for other people to commit to him."
Looks like DC's (slim??) chance of a drive with Williams just decreased.

Interestingly, only Buttons and Webbers names were mentioned. (But that might be because he was responding to the interviewer?)

Far stranger things have happened in the world of F1, and if DC has a good season, do not rule out a move to Williams.

One only has to look at JPM's ridiculous announcement to go to McLaren, in 2005! Talk about a good one...

David did his chances no favours in 2004. He really didn't seem to be up to the job, although there were signs that he can still do the job on Sunday - it's only one-shot qualifying that he needs to master. Although there were positive signs late last season, he still needs to do something amazing in early 2004 to make himself a real contender for a top seat.

His best chance might be if enough smaller teams fold as to force the top teams into running 3 cars, in which case his experience and capability would make him a good back up. Otherwise, Toyota or Jagaur will probably be the best offers he gets.

It has to be said, PH is rewriting history when he says they decided not to continue with David Coulthard - that was only because he and his management (IMG) had already signed for McLaren more than a year previously. Remember Frank and Ron's visit to the contract recognition board?

If Fisi is ever going to get a top ride, he better put on one hell of a performance this season in the Sauber, and he needs to beat his teamate handily...

difficult but not impossible for DC . Just look at Ralfy at Williams, he has been there since 99 and has done less there than what DC has managed at McLaren. YOu never know there could be 3 car teams from next year unless something changes real soon

I don't think Fisi will ever get a top drive - Ron Dennis made a good comment on this when he said if it was going to happen it would've been five years ago.

Next to no chance, unless Sir Frank gets sentimental and offers DC a one-year deal to end his career at the team he started with.

I could see DC in a BAR for 2005, providing Williams recall Button.

DC to Jag to replace Webber but only if he takes a pay cut.

A pay cut with a seat at Jaguar, or out of F1 seem DC's only possibilitites imo.

I think Toyota will be a real option for DC, next season. They'll be looking to replace Panis for sure. Actually, I'm surprised to see Toyota stuck with him this year.

Hmm I'm not sure why Frank would like to do that. Williams are a team on the up, so why do they want DC? True he is regarded as somewhat inconsistant, only slightly more so than both Williams drivers, but there's no point. I'm not sure Gene or Pizzonia would be too amused either, not that Gene has much chance of the race seet and Pizzonia has not enough experience.

So I agree with you. Probability of DC getting a Williams drive is approximately zero.

Personally, I'm surprised that DC has survived at McLaren for so long.

Yes, he's good, but I can't help thinking for the last couple of years that there were more deserving drivers. Under those circumstances I really can't see Frank being that interested.

Where he will actually ends up depends a little on who does get the drive. He might fill the space of the driver who goes to Williams in '05? Who knows.. Jag/BAR/Saubber perhaps? Or maybe just a straight deal to Toyota.

I'm sure there are options for him, just not at Williams I suspect.
