There are alternative roads up to the top (that is how the fans get to campsites etc) but they don't necessarily allow easy access to every single point. With the marshal on a post at the edge of the track, sending a medical vehicle round the track sounds like a better idea than sending it out of the track, through campsites, open and close gates, up a back road, through private owners property etc to do the same job.

I don't think there's a useable alternative on the outside opposite the LCCA clubrooms where the marshal was located, there is a road up the middle between Conrod & Mountain Straights but it doesn't go all the way up and the last half of it is 4x4 only when wet.

Did we hear of about the marshal? Was listening on Race control upload as well and didn't hear. If it was serious enough to hold the race I hope he / she is ok and recovering?

But at the end of the day it was one of those facepalm "wtf were we thinking" moments that happens in racing.

Correct. Other then sending in the chopper, not sure what more could be done?? Safety is for everyone, not just the drivers.
I do remember that once a prac/qualy(???) session was red flagged because a resident was ill and the ambulance was needed on track.

Well, as much as we love our motor racing, the health of anybody involved, particular a volunteer flaggie/marshall, is far more important.

Likely they would've sent the MIV from the hiding spot at the end of the wall out of Forrest Elbow and sent another MIV from the bottom of the hill to replace it (we refer to it as musical chairs) and the original MIV takes that one's place.

I don't think there's an MIV based at the Vista is there??

Drive Bathurst last year had to stop a session due to a local requiring an Ambulance to attend his house.

MIV = Medical Intervention Vehicle, formerly FIV or First Intervention Vehicle which some took to mean Fast Intervention Vehicle and drove to suit

hey im agreeing, but also i dont think its the first time its happened either, although personally i reckon lowndes put a better move on Bowe in 94, and part of that reason is the inexperience

But i preferred the moff pass, second trip to Bathurst and he passed two cars,
but i prefer fords and others holdens, it doesnt make either of us wrong

Amazingly, the Bathurst #17 looks like it will be used at the GC 600 as the majority of the car seems okay structurally.
The major work should be completed by this Sunday and then given back to DJR where their team will have just 2 days to finish it before a test run at QR on the Wednesday.

Penalties ahoy!

Quote:
Post-race investigations from the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 have seen several driving combinations docked championship points regardless of who was behind the wheel at the time.

Stewards advised the field at the Bathurst drivers' briefing that both drivers in each car would be penalised for any loss of championship points, regardless of who was responsible for the incident.

This was not the case at the L&H 500 Phillip Island, where only the driver in the car at the time of the incident was penalised.

Hit hardest is Fujitsu Racing's Michael Caruso, who has lost 50 championship points for two separate incidents. The first for contact with the #49 Commodore of Steve Owen/Paul Morris and the second for contact with the #9 Falcon of Shane van Gisbergen/John McIntyre.

Caruso's co-driver Marcus Marshall was at the wheel of the #34 Fujitsu Racing Commodore for the latter incident. The points penalty drops Caruso to 16th in the series standings, and elevates champion James Courtney up one spot.

Regular series drivers Shane van Gisbergen and Rick Kelly have been docked 25 points each for contact with Car #55 and Car #47 respectively, while Russell Ingall has also lost 25 points for exceeding the maximum distance before merging into the Fast Lane.

van Gisbergen's penalty keeps him in third outright, but closes the gap to fourth-placed Bathurst winner Garth Tander to just 47 points.

Rick Kelly has dropped one place to 7th, with Will Davison elevated up to 6th.

Was listening to race control, team radio and #7, when that happen, head nearly exploded. Dunno how Cromley does it.

Safety car seem to have the best radio protocol, always identifying themselves.

Winning Bathurst Changes Your Life

It seems that Downoz, E36ST, fedzo, glenn_a, jason7253, JHamilton, neiltbag, TWRv12 picked it right in the poll on this thread. Here's hoping there was some money going down, the #2 was paying as much as $15 to the $1 not so long ago, and was in the $20's at the start of the year before Mr Percat showed his hand...
