Yes, there's a noticeable lack of sponsors on Turkington's shirt and in the press release, although they've obviously got the funding sorted. And the main thing is he is back!


A quote from an article on touringcars.net a while back said:

Bennetts confirmed that the team’s remaining two cars, both of which have the seats to be filled, will run in a similar colour scheme, although he also expressed a preference to try to unify all three cars again in 2018.

“The other two cars will be very similar, except for where the drivers have their own sponsorship places. In the perfect world I’d like to go back to how it was with eBay in 2014, where we had all three cars the same, and then the drivers have their sponsors."

It reads to me like the remaining cars will have a main (if not title) sponsor and then the drivers will add their personal sponsors. I just hope the liveries don't look as much of a mish-mash as they did in 2010. They've looked stunning in various guises from 2013 - 2016.

Got to be one of the strongest grids in the entire history of BTCC. Pretty much every team has 2 drivers that are capable of winning races. Even in the Super Touring days there was usually one dominant driver at a team with a 'second driver' as back up.

Thinking further ahead (2018!) with regard to Duck Bennetts earlier comments regarding a preference to have all three cars in a unified colour scheme: is AJ on a one year deal? Or will we be potentially looking at a repeat of his MotorBase exit?

Dick Bennett's master plan - get Pirtek in the door in 2017 sponsoring one car, then sweet talk them into expanding to a 3 car effort for 2018!

It was announced as two year deal which coincides with the end of the last deal AJ did with Pirtek.

Be interesting to see what he does. He's been unlucky throughout his career really, he's never quite had enough to be a number 1 driver in a team. Even last season it was team Tordoff. If he's at WSR again this year he knows he needs to have to be at the absolute top of his game to keep pace with Turks and AJ.

Also interesting to see Shell V-Power logo on his helmet - they aren't listed on his website as a personal sponsor so perhaps a Shell V-Power BMW Racing team is on the cards?

Shell signed as a title sponsor for DJRTP in Supercars for the next 3 years starting this year, it's feasible that motorsport could be a greater part of their global marketing strategy.
