It's a shame Duke Video didn't bother to check the spelling of Mike Hawthorn's name.

What were those funny tall things covered in leaves that lined the road? Looked rather dangerous. Oh! Yes, back in 1955 we called them trees. |

Thank you Gordon! Did you see the size of the battery? I guess they had to test the trunk volume with the ACO metal suite case.
Oui, ami Robert those trees proved to be really dangerous. And the sand bankings trapped many cars. Those were the days. Today was la "sainte Amédée… " Last edited by Gerard C; 30 Mar 2017 at 17:51. Reason: Amédée ! |

Was Mr. Hawthorn wearing an early version of a HANS device with the microphone attached?

I always boggle when top TV types turn up with their professional quality equipment - a couple of Go Pros! To think that we all go out and buy the same equipment as the industry standard for just a few quid shows how consumer electronics have progressed.

Akai client then Gordon? You can't imagine how many Teac/Tascam R2000 we sold to the radios in the '90s. They did like it because it was affordable, reliable and auto reverse… Good for all night playing without any human intervention!

Indeed Alan, Revox was THE thing. We challenged that with very agressive prices, not with quality. We had a very efficient and almost free after sales service for the pros too.

Although I still have my 3 Akai reel to reel recorders I sold my two S8 sound movie cameras on ebay last year as they were just taking up space.
I have mentioned on 10/10ths in the past regarding what to do with all our old photographic gear that cost a small fortune all those years back and still have several lenses and bodies that are not worth trying to sell but I can't "throw" them away, no doubt I am not alone though ! |

Regrettably sold my Revox to a mate 40 years ago ( bought from Sound Exchange in Penge I think, £125) to fund an expensive girlfriend but still have the Akai and loads of unlistenable 70's prog rock on tape.
Also have my dad's Zenith A on which all our childhood photos were taken (and a mahogany & brass plate camera which his father made a generation before that). How can you part with these things, however useless they are today? Oh, and 2 Kodak Super 8 projectors (one unused), a Zeiss epidiascope, Eumig slide projector............ |

Then getting both older I felt I didn't need her much while she was less attractive to others' eyes. So I sold Bob's old shoes to fund her one way ticket to Hell! And I still have the Porsche Voxon 8 track system! |

Gordon you made a happy guy. Probably he will show up again when one of the tape will all be inside the player… That is called period correct!
When we were young, the best gift we could receive on the occasion of first Holy Communion was either a Waterman pencil or a Kodak Brownie flash camera! Who would use one of these to take a picture now? They all use their phone! |

I still have a couple of 8 track players and a box full of tapes in the loft. I also have an LPL enlarger which cost me £300 about 30 years ago, now going for about £15 on ebay

I thought it was bad manners - they really should have directed it at the Spanish! Somehting that might amuse you, Gerard. As you will know, this part of the world suffered at the hands of the Spanish about 500 years ago. However, the Ch'ti's have long memories. As an example, the first strawberries of the season have arrived in my local Carrefour. There are two varieties, one Spanish & one French. The Spanish ones are about half the price of the French, but I noticed this afternoon the French variety has completely sold out whilst there was still a full box of the Spanish. Same thing happens every year... Admittedly the Spanish strawberries are tasteless & mushy, as you would expect. |
