Nick JM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
'Historic' Racing Seats - A burning (your backside) issue!

. Thinking of putting a couple of Ridgards in the oad B. More comfortable than the period seats and probably safer too.[/QUOTE]

I can second that - Ridguards are v comfortable - Bob should go into making sofas as well - maybe with that built in oily smell as well

A friend of mine gave me a brand new seat for the escort.I had to tell him we are not going to use it which was a bit embarrassing. We found an old Ridguard seat which is very comfy."think it came out of an MGB".Could'nt use it in the B cus it was LHD

Problem with Ridgard seats is that they are not FIA approved. I don't know why. So you can't run them at Spa etc. But a pair of these in the road MG would be very nice.

Because Bob hasn't paid a large amount of money to the FIA to subsidise large numbers of civil servant types running round in circles

He is an individual and if he's making a reasonable living will see no reason to pay out without needing to.

Pretty much every App k 'B I have seen has Ridguard seats in and although I have never been to SPA I would be surprised if they take them out and substitute them for something else if they are racing there. Am I being controversial or will/do the scrutineers turn a bit of a blind eye

Incidentally Ian didn't my LHD 'B have a Ridguard fitted...

FIA Period F up to Dec 1965 allows original or 'period specification' non FIA homologated seats. The Gilbern has run with Cobra 'period' seats since 2007 without ever being questioned- for that reason.

Yet, I'm told that at Spa last year a number of pre '66 cars were refused by the scrutes until they changed seats. In one case it cost the driver a substantial sum of money.

Something wrong there then unless they weren't Competition Touring (CT) or Competition Grand Touring (GTS) cars? Or the seats they had were not period specification? I guess if you fitted a more 'modern' fibreglass or carbon seat that wasn't FIA labelled or was but out of date it would fail.

Gilbern has done 3 Spa events without any mention or query as well as all other FIA events so would like to know what the issue was- just in case!

Quite correct Mike,a 'period' seat DOES not need a date label on it.

I'm putting original seats back in a car to get round the date issue, and to make the car more comfortable to drive, race seats just don't fit in many oldies as the floor pans are too narrow.

Unless of course you chop the floor out at start from scratch

I've taken a Ridgard out of an MGB before now, horrible thing.

Zef,

I can assure you the most comfortable race seat you'll ever sit in would be a Ridgard.

I never understood how you could put a non-FIA seat made currently into a car and call it period specification? Doesn't period specification imply the seat that was specified in period i.e. the original fitment seat? If not then what the heck defines period specification - steel frame with webbing and a vinyl or leather covering????

Confused!
