Should Alonso have recieved a push start

MS received one at the Nurburgring.... i think Alonso was in a dangerous position.. a part of his car was on the road... engine seemed to be running...

the marshalls could have given a push start and if it was wrong then race control could have DQ'd him..

Yeah, as Brundle said; Italien Marshals, French car, Spanish driver - who do they want to win?

If you 'aint in a red car you wont get pushed it seems.

They were correct not to push him.

His mistake, he was pretty much beached, most of the car was off the track.

Race over.

Wasn't TGF's car still moving when he got a push and if Alonso had rejoined and caused an incident only to be DQF what would be the implications of that?

When Schumacher got a push, I was annoyed too - however in his incident he was much less off the track.

What??

MS was beached. In fact a spectator helped to get him back on track. FA could and should have been pushed. At least an attempt should have been made.

That would be fair enough if I believed that the marshals didn't push him beacuse of that. But I don't.

If it was TGF, he'd have been pushed for sure.

They shouldn't have pushed Schu or Alonso - simple as that.

Just goes to show ...

Do some of you guys not know the regs????
If the car is running and it is in a dangerous position and able to be returned to the track faster and more safely than removing via crane then the marshalls can push the car.
There will always be grounds for appeal however in most cases there would be no issue.
F A should have been pushed however as has been mentioned
1. he is not in a red car and
2. we were not there and the Marshalls may have made the call that it was too damgerous to return the car to the track (for F A and the Marshalls)

The marshals made the correct descion.

Ferando was in a dangerous postion the only option was to toe the car out and have double waved yellows.

True - he could have possible fouled up the Ferrari 1-2 - much better to crane him away.

Haha.. funny..but anyone with any sense of mind would have known that Alonso's spin had reduced his chance to challenging Ferrari to zero.

Did anybody consider this..but pushing Alonso back on track would result in him momentarily going the wrong direction, and doing a recovery spin, very much out of sight of oncoming traffic, and he too can't see approaching cars?

Irrespective of what happens to MS in Nurburgring, it's just tough luck for Alonso. Pity he can't salvage some points..

It was the correct decision. However Schumacher's push last year at Nürburgring created a precedent. In my opinion, there should be a clear rule about it. After all, that's why yellow flags exist, to warn drivers of danger. And the white flag is there to mark that there's an external vehicle near or on track (IIRC), so I think there should be a rule like, for example... Any beached car that can't get to the track without help will be out of the race...

Why didn't they use the system for when Herbert spun and beached at Silverstone in the Sauber - he was pushed out of the gravel but instructed to immediately pit and retire? I would've thought that'd be safer, and I agree that a driver shouldn't be allowed back into the race under these circumstances

It's another one of those funny rules isn't it? Applies to 18 of the cars but not the other two.

Funny, this comment appeared on the forums of motorsport.com.....13 minutes after this one.

And it had the exact same spelling error.

Spooky as hell that is!

Imitation.....flattery. You should feel humbled Jarcey!
