3rd Tasman Revival - Eastern Creek - 2010

The 3rd Tasman Revival will be at Eastern Creek on 26, 27 & 28th November this year.

It now has a fabulous new website as of last week. Put together by Rich Fowler, it has some fantastic features and you will need some time to take it all in, this is a must-see website even if you are not able to attend the event.

This bi-annual Tasman Revival is promoted by the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA) with the support of the Australian Racing Drivers Club (ARDC).

The new website will be updated weekly to entice visits to the site on a regular basis.

Many thanks David.

It was my first visit there - I drove up especially for the event and am thrilled that I did. It was a very memorable event and EC is a more dramatic circuit than it appears on TV - courtesy of the constant elevation changes and the extended field of vision which spectators have from many parts of the circuit.

Being my first visit to the track added a bit of a challenge, not that I ever make it easy for myself. As I knew I had two days, much of Saturday was spent in recce mode - sacrificing some shooting time while on the move to try and figure out what works and what doesn't at different times of the day in different places - so that I could really go for it with confidence on Sunday. Then of course, Sunday's weather added another dimension, although give me a downpour rather than the heat any day

I never pay attention to what the other photographers are doing, as I have a determined sense of what I am trying to achieve in capturing my vision of the 'sweet spot' of the action. As you know from the feeling behind the wheel at different points of the same corner, a metre either way can mean the difference between a dramatic pic and a uni-dimensional useless temporary waste of card space. So, at least this time with my lack of previous EC experience, it was a case of constant guessing and fine-tuning by 'trimming' my location at each corner throughout the weekend.

With hindsight, although I was a bit unsure until I got back home, I enjoyed the majority of the pics, despite there being so much repetition that editing took a few days longer than usual.

There is one corner which I missed out on and which I will be trying next time - the exit of the last corner, especially in the late afternoon when the sun is shining, remains on my to-do list. As I intended to be there late on Sunday and it was dark and pouring with rain at the time, I figured that the Touring Cars would be more spectacular at the entrance and exit of Turn 2. All I can say is that, even watching through a viewfinder with one eye closed, it was a magic place to be for any racing addict!

BTW, I sent you a link to my Sandown images a while back - 'missed seeing you there - but it bounced back. If you've changed email addresses, please let me have the new one.

Take care
Peter

We didn't do Sandown this year, budget constraints! Will be at the island in March, then Morgan Park, Muscle Car and maybe Sandown in 2011. The big picture is Hampton Downs in NZ in January 2012 followed by the island in March and Muscle Car in Sept. Hampton Downs in 2012 is a big BMW festival with BMW Head Office Germany support who are rumoured to be flying out several cars for the event. Two race meetings over consecutive weekends, wouldn't miss it for quids!
You have a PM.
