Well that was certainly unexpected. At least to me...

I didn't see that coming, I wonder how this will all play out. I expect that it won't be too long before Oreca announces that they have a contract with a road car manufacturer for the anticipated regulations.

Press release in English. They've purchased the full manufacturing company, and Yves will stay on. |

Indeed that's a very good news for LMP1 and that's somewhat more ambitious than Embassy's project !!

This is a big surprise for me. I had the impression Oreca had already the knowledge and experience to build a prototype.
I am sure it will boost the performance (speed & reliability; see Oreca Saleens) of the Courage LMP1/LMP2 prototypes. Will they use the Courage name in the future or do they switch to Oreca name? It's nice to see Yves Courage be involved in the future. Quote:

The first thing I thought of was also the Acura connection. It will be a very interesting road ahead...

That's the way it seems judging from some of the comments by Hughes. I'm certainly looking forward to it! And it also goes along with the current GT1 regulations being phased out in regrads to the S7R project being perhaps, "placed aside".

Great news, Oreca's expertise and enthusiasm should be able to push the current P1 right to the front of the grid.
It also sounds like the new reg P1 Coupe should compete from 2009! |

Great news indeed. Hopefully the Courage should now be able to show its true potential.

edit: I'm thinking either Judd or Peugeot power (not quite sure if Peugeot would sell customer engines, but they did indicate at the 1000km of Nurburgring that they would consider customer cars next year) Last edited by Zytek_Fan; 14 Sep 2007 at 23:46. |

First thought on the buyout was does Acura try their own hand at ground up or do they have a long-term tub contract? Hoping that Oreca allows the Acura tubs to continue even if it could be some LMP1 competition in the future. Now to see who they join up with, engine supplier or manufacturer support.

there is some further clarification at endurance info:
-The cars will be badged at Courage-ORECA -One team will work on the new P1 car -Annother team will concentrate on developing the P2 car -They have not finalized if the P1 will be a 2008 or 2009 program -They are leaning towards sooner rather than later -No decision yet made on Saleen program, but they will not operate the two programs at the same time So if the P1 car is a go for 2008 then the Saleen program is history. If the P1 program is pushed back to 2009, Saleens may stay for one more year. |

I doubt Oreca would stop the supply of anything that would generate cash.
It after all a buisness, so if Honda want to buy a spare tub, wishbone or a 3rd stage black override bottom bucket switch, oreca would supply it. SLC/ATR may produce the tub, but to a Courage design and I doubt they would be able to sell it direct to anyone other than via Courage/Oreca |

Would be nice if Mazda bankrolled the development of the AER V8 turbo with direct injection. They're already half way there!

Wasnt it Oreca who ran the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda ? They already have very close links .
