Use of forced induction for GT cars (or lack thereof)

Only example of GT car that could use a turbo engine from the road car is the Nissan GT-R. There has to be a reason why they went to an NA V8: it's much lighter. Big GT cars struggle to reach their target minimum weight and fitting a heavier engine would not help there. The GT3 car uses the road car engine, which must be cheaper to use since it does not have to be tuned for extreme performance - and much heavier.

Just imagine the Porsche with a turbo flat-6... big problem! But they would have the edge on torque.

Mclaren's MP4 will use a turbo V8, I've read previously the GT3 was built from the outset as a base for the GTE.

It might come as a surprise that the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 has actually been detuned, to make the performance manageable, from 592bhp to 493bhp. The road car's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also dumped for a six-speed sequential unit weighing 80kg less.

mclaren is forced to use the 3.8 turbo engine in a (?) future gte version of the mp4-12c because is the only engine that builds. (even if in pratice is more a nissan derivated engine than a mclaren/ricardo one).
Or maybe will do as lotus did this year, will use the same base, will remove the turbo and will add 0.2l of volume to the engine.
