Have to agree with Nighthawk here. If the MSA put something in place, then surley the clubs should stick to it. It has also been said that the BARC did not adopt the Black/Yellow - why not, again it was in the Blue Book and should therefore have been included.
I must admit, I thought we had got away from the them and us that was around in the late 80's and early 90's, but this sort of thing does not help either training, or consistancy of marshalling. No wonder the black and yellow failed if it was not being used by all clubs. |

Sorry, meant to add - this is not a dig at BARC, just a question. Perhaps someone should email them or phone them and ask the question outright - although I would suggest that it be a member.

I can only reitterate that when I was an IO I was told that the Ass Observer was their equivalent.

I have a feeling that it's because BARC have their own grading scheme but I could be totally wrong on this.

In fairness Sheila the MSA grading scheme should be the one adopted by all clubs as it is the MSA who licence us.

Nighthawk,
If you read a current BARC training manual then you might find it is different. |

Yeh Ok point taken I have read an updated version now.
Shame I like BARC meetings But then again as was said early on who's bothered in the long run. It's not about grades or us and them. |

The MSA grading scheme should be the one adopted by all clubs as it is the MSA who licence us. that is the point |

why do they have to adopt the MSA licensing system just because all other clubs do it. if they have a system that works for them, good for em, after all the MSA system is not perfect itself.

The reason is that the MSA are the licencing body for drivers and marshals alike. If they were to do so (and any other clubs that run their own scheme) posts like this would be redundant.

Apart from being a member of the BMMC, I am also a member of BRSCC and BARC and my usual duty is IO and I've never had a problem being allocated for that duty with either club. The only time my IO grade is not recognised is at Donington and thats simply because I'm not a regular at Donington and they rightly or wrongly prefer to use IO's who are regulars and attend the Donington training days. |

Why do we need IO's anyway?
It's just an excuse to not push cars, sweep the track, dress oil spills etc! Save time and go straight for the Observer grade!! You can get away with all of the above AND sit in your deckchair between (During) sessions! |
