The ranking system

I really don't understand the numbering system in the ALMS. Surely the Prototypes/GT1 should be the first numbers , then the GTS cars and then the GT cars. Instead the Corvettes have the numbers 3 and 4 which surely should be the Panoz or something. I find it really confusing. At Lemans it is better as the audis are 1 - 4 then the Caddys , then Bently , Chysler , Panoz and Courage. Surely there should be a more organised structure!

Perhaps they dish out the numbers in the order that entries are received, or in alphabetic order.

Whatever method they use, does it really matter? As long as us punters can easily identify each car against the list in the programme...
