That is complete bull from Whitmarsh, they pulled Button and Hamilton off one another last year!

One of the peculiar things about F1 over any other part of motor racing is that a 'team element' is introduced for the first time in a driver's career. Up to then, everything they do is about themselves only. It's no surprise that they have a problem with following orders for 'the good of the team'... and even less of a surprise that they turn out to be useless team managers when they hang their helmet up. Racing drivers are not wired to be team players.

Interestingly, Mark Webber has had a stint in his career where teamwork was very important for his results. He has done a year or 2 in the GT-racingseries with Mercedes, where he became famous for his flip in Le Mans.

That quote relates to McLaren's Hamilton/Alonso period.

At least Mercedes have got their priorities sorted with regard to team orders.
