Road car - a few years ago a friend built a Mitsubishi Starion that had about 450hp and had a close ratio box and short diff (ex rally stuff).

While it was going it was scary fast, a real rocketship that would break into wheelspin at highway speeds if injudicious throttle and steering combinations were used - not really road legal though - never would've passed noise of smog regs.

Last I heard, he was still planning to put a 3000GT V6 in it....some people are never satisfied

Mattracer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As a passenger, I had a ride in a 911 SC 2.7 (I think) at 160+ k/mh) but the acceleration to about 140+ k/mh was the best part. I was fairly young at the time, so pretty much anything was impessive, but I had always revered the Porsche legend so to to actually ride in one, and fast, was a total thrill.

Probably "old hat" these days, but that car really got down and partied when you asked it it to...

M Coupe should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Owned a couple of cars which can get close to 160-170mph, Fiat Coupe Turbo, BMW M Coupe (unlimited), current Lotus Elise is good for approx 145-150mph.
Few years back when my day job was within the BMW Group I drove a BMW M5, which had a couple of minor tweeks, and no speed limiter. I took it to just over 170mph, then the M-Sport driver took it to over 190mph with me in the passenger seat. The car had been clocked at 200mph, true speed, not indicated.

Take your pick between:

1991 Nissan Pulsar
1989 Toyota Camry

That's all I've ever driven...

Will add a 1980 Holden Kingswood to the list soon

1994 customized Porsche turbo. 420 bhp at the rear wheels. I know because I was present when it was dynoed. Ungodly quick. Others include:

Ferrari 550 Maranello
Corvette ZR-1 1990 MY
Ferrari Testarossa 1990 MY

Lotus Elise but sadly I'm only 5'5" so couldn't push the peddles down properly/fully - they should come with a height warning

Fastest car I've ever driven was a 2001 Audi S4 demo. I don't think I saw any thing for top speed, but it was quick. Fastest I've ever driven is 210kph in my 87 BMW 325i. It still had plenty in reserve... I miss that car

Sunflower, that's the first I've heard of someone being too short for a Lotus, have you ever tried a 7-type car?
5'5" isn't short.. you're taller than my mum!

'7 type' refers to any sportscar which is similar to the Lotus 7 so it includes Caterhams, Westfield, Robin Hood, Dax Rush, Quantum Extreme, Sylva Strika, Locost and some Duttons. Most of them are not comfortable for tall people

May your sunflowers grow very tall
