Help - Australian Motor Racing Books

I'm not sure if anyone can help but I'm after some informmation on the various series of Australian Motor Racing Books that have been published over the years relating to Bathurst or the Touring Car Championship.

In my collection I have.....

Australian Motor Racing Year/Competition Yearbook. Most years from 1979 through to 1995, trying to get some of the earlier years.

James Hardie 1000 series. 1981-1988

The Great Race series. 1988-2001. Missing 1989-90-91-92-93.

V8 Bathurst series. 1997-1998.

Bathurst series. 1982-1988. Missing 1985.

Now my question is, I also have one simply called Raceyear 1983 which is issue 1. Does anybody know how many others are in this series or was it a one off?

Just when I think I have most of the various series covered another one seems to appear.

If anyone has any information about the Raceyear books they could share it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Raceyear 1984 - very good book, Australia publication, centered around Domestic and International Motor Racing. I am not sure if others were made, but I have seen a book Motorcycle 1986 (I think), that appeared to have been published by the same people.

Actually, Dazz, I've found the best place to get motor racing books is general second hand bookshops, as it's mostly old ladies who visit them, so the motor racing books are left untouched...finding a 1989 Aus GP programme signed by Gugelmin and Piquet is my greatest find thus far...

Thanks for the info DNQ. I guess now we know there are at least 2 in the series! Now it's just a matter of finding them for sale.

And, a bit more research reveals the book also came out in 1985...

Go to http://www.abebooks.com/ and do a search.
It appears that it was published in 83, 84, 85 and 86
A number are available from various vendors at reasonable
prices

There were only three editions of Raceyear - 1983, '84 and '85.

There is also Australian Motor Racing Annual, a magazine format, ran from 1964 to 1975.

Yep, only 3 Raceyears, the Bathurst Book put out by the same mob ran from 1982 to 1988.

I've got just about all of the AMRYs and Chevron Bathurst books 1981-2001, with the two V8 ones. Like DNQ, I find a lot of them in 2nd hand bookstores, lifeline bookfairs (ha!) and so on. My best pickup so far was AMRY #10 for $2, when Drysdale's have it on sale for $300!

A few other books floating around:
- A few books put out by Evan Green
- ATCRA by Ray Simpson from the late 80's, also a Bathurst book from 1990, there might or might not be more of them...
- Allan Moffat's Racing RX7
- Brock and Moffat on the Road to Spa
- The Jim Richards Story
- Dick Johnson -The real story of a folk hero (3 editions)
- Holdens Vs Fords by Mike Harding
- Fast Tracks by Terry Walker
- AGP 50 yrs and ATCC 30yrs

and the list goes on...

Well thanks to your help guys, today I managed to track down Australian Competition Yearbooks for the years 1971 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 all for $40 each which I think is pretty darn good myself seeing as how some of these are advertised around for over $100-$200!

All I need now is 1972, 1973, 1980 and 1990 and I will have all of them. Then in The Great Race series I need 1989-90-91-92-93 and I will have that colection complete as well. And by the souns of it I only have to find the other 2 raceyears to have them complete too, Not that I am obsessed or anything!

Oh, forgot the biggest and one of the best- Australia's Greatest Motor Race by Chevron. There have been 3 editions so far, one early 80s, one late 80s, and the latest one from 2000.

The 40yrs book from 2000 costs about $150, but it has a lot of additional photos and info, and there are still heaps of them around. You can find a few of the first edition floating around (I've got 2 copies of it) cheap, but the 2nd edition is fairly rare.

Also 'Bathurst- the craddle of Australian motor racing' is a fantastic book- it's worth it simply for the shots of Conrod as a goat track... it costs about $90.

Yeah I have the three Australia's Greatest Motor Race books, plus the Australian Touring Car Championship 30 Fabulous Years.

It's a shame they no longer do any of those Competition Yearbooks they really were great reading.

Yeah, those second bookshops are great, I went into one yesterday and picked up 'Bathurst 1985' for $10 - they also had the 1981 and 1983 books, might go back for them later.

One of my best buys was when I went to a Angus and Robertson clearance center and found the Great Race 1996 and 1998, and Australian Motor Racing Year 1986/87 for FOUR DOLLARS each...amazing, especially as the same day I went to Drysdale Auto Books in the city and saw them for $50+ ... that's a good shop, but their stuff is VERY expensive.
