Well, my golden years thread didn't raise much of a discussion so let's be more specific this time. What was you all time favourite rally car?

Without question, from the Group B days the Audi Quattro. Although the Metro 6R4 was kind of cool

A single favorite is very hard to choose as I have three...

1. Lancia Stratos HF: This must the coolest looking machine ever devised for rally. Love the shape and that engine note.

2. Mini Cooper S: "The little car that could" and did take on the best of the larger cars and win. Greatest underdog car.

3. Renault Alpine: Another car with a lovely shape and a winning pedigree.

the Audi Quattro thingy was one heck of a car ..but I found it just plain ugly.

Toyota celicas are pretty nice cars but I love little Ford escorts and they made great rally cars..of the modern brigade Subaru WRX is the best looking in my view.

It's not often I venture into this muddy forum but I do agree with KC.

Lancia Stratos
Mini Cooper

Although for 3rd I would prefer the RS Escort, mainly for the antics of Roger Clark.

Well almost,

The Escort needs to be covered in mud, grime, oil and s**t and going sideways. But close

Sparky, I leeerrrrve that Datsun pic, please tell me what you can about it.

That Mk I Escort is also very sweet, looks like a car that was previously owned by my car club president, before he went off the rails and bought a BMW.

Well I can't pick just one because it wouldn't surprise anybody so I'll do a short list too.

Classics - Datsun 1600
Group B - tied decision, Audi Quattro & Puegeot 205
Group A - Subaru Impreza WRX

Hi, guys,

I've been away for a (long) while, but I'm back...

Between my all-time fav' cars, my first pick would be the Lancia Stratos, for its looks and magical sound.

The second, for sheer performances and lots of power, the Lancia Delta S4.

I cant tell you the model, but the cars that most impressed me were a pair V8 Mercedes, that the works team bought to NZ to compete in the Heatwave rally of the late seventies,
I can still remember taking the day off school to watch these things, and still have the photo's in my album, for a snotnosed schoolboy these things were like seeing something from another planet!

Warwick,

You mean the 500SLC, driven to 3rd and 5th position of the '80 NZ Rally by Mikkola and Waldegaard.
