Since we used new parts suppliers, the delay of parts supply and the problems occured.
We want to apologize to team Strakka and related persons.

For a Japanese company to say something like that so publicly is quite a big thing.......they are obviously very serious about the project and dont want to lose Strakka.......the car looks killer, and I think they did the right thing pulling out of LM, as I'm sure it would have only lasted a few hours at best.......lets hope they show their metal in the rest of the WEC

As you can see from the Japanese Autosport magazine pictures the S103 is a serious piece of kit. I'd expect a lot from it when it makes its race debut

Mr. Collins, do you think lmp1 teams will copy the 'handlebars' for their updated or new cars? Seems like an ingenious idea to skirt the new height rules and could be used as a near wing like device.

My ideal look would be the Porsche 919 bubble roof with the handlebars There must be an aerodynamic gain to be had with the slimmer engine cover and shorter roofline.

Interesting rear rocker scheme.

Does anybody have a better/bigger picture of it? I was not able to zoom it properly.

Thanks!

<Autosport magazine S103 reports.>
*The wheelbase of S103 is 100mm longer than that of S102.5.
*The downforce of S103 exceeds S102.5.
*The headlight of S103 is full LED of ready-made.
*Engine cowl of S103 consists of the parts of right-and-left independence instead of one piece.
This is for cost reduction and maintenance friendly.
*Radiators have symmetrical design for cost reduction.
*Parts are not mounted behind radiators in order to improve survival performance in case of tire burst.
*The reservoir tanks of brake and clutch are mounted inside monocoque to improve survival performance.
*The engine of S103 is sunk into the monocoque.
*The bell housing of S103 is made by Hashiba-mold.
*Rear dampers of S103 are mounted in the bell housing.
*The rocker arm is made of shaft and sheet metal for cost reduction.
*There is only one hinge on the door. So the door is opened horizontally.
The reason of single hinge is for weight saving, cost cut and rigid retainment of monocoque.
*The genuine side mirror units (mirror, motor etc) of Toyota Passo are diverted to the fender mirrors of S103.

From the pics it looks like they have used the same head restraint set up as Rebellion with the left hand side of the padding built into the door.
Very neat, provided the door stays closed.

S103 monocoque was designed for LMP1.
Therefore, a different engine could also be carried.

So it's a change of rear geometry and new gearbox casing causing the hold-ups on the Strakka Dome.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114913

They haven't been out testing since the Spa crash. You have to think it's doubtful they'll make CotA, especially with them missing the freight.

According to Japanese Autosport, the "old" gearbox casing of S103 is a ready-made parts of Xtrac.

If they can't move the repaired Dome to CotA in time, they could just move to the next round.

The race isn't for another 2 months but a gearbox casing? That's unfortunate.

It took five weeks of Columbus to make the transatlantic journey from Canaries to Bahamas @ the 15th century, but it takes around 1½-2 months from the ACO to carry some automobile freight from Europe to North America @ the 21st century.

Sailing time is about 7 days, but it depends a lot on what the selected load port is (I'm guessing somewhere like Hamburg makes sense), whether there's a transhipment involved to take it somewhere like Houston, and factor in something to handle loading in Europe, unloading in the US, customs clearance etc. Checking both Maersk and Hamburg Sud's shipping schedules they cite 30 days as estimated shipment times.

Maybe but it used to take 5 weeks of WTCC to transport cars and equipment overseas from Europe to Japan. We are talking of 7-8 weeks here between Europe and southern US

I think you're underestimating how long it probably takes to clear customs in the USA, and along with backlogs of freight that might mean the cars spend a few weeks on a ship docked in a US harbor.

I thought people would just print a new gearbox casing at home or are we not believing in the 3D printing hype?
Anyway, can still machine it from solid aluminium block with a few weeks lead time
