Fantasy Racing Challenge 2008

It's about that time folks, the racing season is about to start! So Year 2 of the Fantasy Racing Challenge is about to begin. In that vein, the schedule will include 11 rounds with a combination of races from the ALMS, LMS and of course Le Mans.

The Rules:

Prior to each round a separate prediction thread for that race will be posted. This is where you are to place your predictions. Each race thread will outline important times and dates, the most current entry list, other links of importance, and any special rules for that race, if any. Submissions must be made prior to the time deadline given in the prediction thread. Once the deadline passes no more predictions can be made. After the race I will post the results along with an updated points tally.

The competition will be divided into two parts. The first portion will focus on qualifying. The object is simple, guess the pole sitter for each class. The guess must be correct in order to earn points. One point will be awarded for each correct pole sitter guessed. As this championship is based on the ACO four class system, a total of four possible points per round are available in the qualifying portion.

The second portion of the competition will focus on the race. Again, the object is simple, guess each class winner. However, this portion has a twist. You can pick one, two, or three cars per class. If you guess one car only, you can earn four points for the correct guess. If you guess two cars, and one of them wins, you can earn two points. And if you guess three cars, and one of them wins, you can earn one point. If none of your selections win, you get zero points. This is a classic risk vs. reward scenario. I give the following example:

Say for Sebring I select Audi #1 and Audi #2 as my picks to win the P1 class. Since I have chosen two cars, the most points I can earn for a correct guess is two. If either car takes the win I earn two points. If neither car wins, I earn no points. The twist obviously is if you feel confident in your choice and pick only one car, you can earn more points. However, your chances for not scoring any points increases.

Each entry submission will include your guess for the pole sitter in each class along with your guess for each class winner in the race.

The object of the season is to score the most points.

The Schedule:

March 15 – 12 Hours of Sebring
April 6 – Catalunya 1000K
April 27 – Monza 1000K
May 11 – Spa 1000K
June 14 – 24 Hours of Le Mans (double points)
August 9 – Road America 500
August 17 – Nurburgring 1000K
September 14 – Silverstone 1000K
October 4 – Petit Le Mans
October 18 – Monterey Sportscar Championship
November 2 - Shanghai

Just like last year, we will not utilize the entire ALMS schedule. This is primarily a time issue. Last year was a hand full. So I'd like to keep it fairly simple. Although I think it will go smoother this time around.

Wrap Up:

The championship is open to all, so please don’t be shy and join the fun. The more participants we have the more fun it will be. However, I would appreciate that if you do participate you try and do so for the entire season. I encourage creative banter, as it only adds to the fun and excitement. If there are any questions or calls for clarification, please post them here. So please post up if you're planning on participating. I will put up the Sebring prediction thread next week, as it's just around the corner. Good luck everyone!

Ah, can't please everyone!

Yes, that will probably be included.

Edit: do we have a date for the Shanghai race? Don't see it on the LMS website.

I'm in again.

Double points for Sebring and Petit and triple points for Le Mans again?

Yes as Kai pointed out it is Nov. 1-2. It is not an LMS race but an ACO race. link

I'm going to make Le Mans double points and the rest are equal. We have no sprint races per say with Road America and Laguna being the shortest at four hours each.

I'm in. Can you put a link to the prediction thread in every race thread (for the above mentioned races)?

I forgot to predict a race halway through the season last year

Go ahead and put me down for ECO racing to win Sebring

I'm in! And yeah, I echo what prototype says here, can we have the prediction thread within the main section of the forum?

But yeah, looks like a laugh...

I'm gonna go for a first attempt if i remember every time.

Question

If we know we won't be able to get on the forum in the time its open before the race, is there a way we could get our entries in? eg. a PM a month before or so.

Yeah, that's not a problem. The only requirement is that submissions must be in before the deadline.
