Not a Moggy 1000 one, they had a three pronged internal bayonet type clasp, this one is external. (I do appear to be displaying a lot of BMC related trivial knowledge today!)
From my time 'working on the pumps' back in the day, I'm struggling to think of tank caps that were external types, or were some of the Ford ones? Someone like Gordon or Zeff will probably put me right. |

The 2 slots and outside clamping look familiar to me although for which vehicle I cannot recall. But it's something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132573548361 Sort of 3 prongs inside but seemingly just to retain the sealing ring. My memory, such as it is, hints at Minivan or Riley Elf. for vehicles I have owned that might have had that sort of cap. Could be totally wrong though. ETA: Another with the pertinent sort of fitting concept but dubious application and cosmetics! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202507829796 Last edited by grantp; 22 Nov 2018 at 12:02. |

My guess is that it comes from a van or truck. Afraid haven't a clue what make, though.

Hmm. Maybe the sizes changed at various points but the basic concept was retained? Is the long neck part of the whole fitting or might it have been a lash up at some point? I'd be tempted to look at a van/truck in the BMC/BL range to see if they offer different sizes. (If one can find anything.) Alternatively just cover the hole with cling film - should be fine ..... |

This link is interesting.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-BMC-A....c100010.m2109 Seems to suggest some greater degree of commonality between manufacturers - perhaps in the 50s? That said it could just be that seller is fishing for buyers and not wanting to rule anyone out. Does give sizes though. |

Here’s the cap off my Delta for comparison. No idea if the supply neck is the same, but would be good to think it was!

The cap in picture Mike posted looks like a Triumph motorbike cap. Repro caps are widely available.

Quite likely a fairly universal imperial fitting, with varying degrees of bling depending on application!
